Leading question: then why bother with AJAX?
Different roles innit, Brimstone in a box is overwatch and can happily sit well back from the front sniping away.

We still need to locate and isolate (well more locate than anything else) and that's where Ajax comes in.

But Ajax is more than that too its the start of the overhaul of the IFV fleet, Warrior will go eventually, better have your IFV as part of a family rather than a separate vehicle with its own log train and individual training.

Anyway, masts on Warrior

Isn’t that a MSTAR (or similar)?

CVRT, may not be very big, but modern radios are tiny compared to C42 C11 and even Clansman. Combined with a small retractable mast, possibly extending the back of the turret I'm pretty sure could be a fit. Even the mast base could be made to fold flat across the back or down the side.
As for weapons fit, I'll leave that to the experts.

"Dieselised" FOX would be excellent, once they had removed the top-heavy 30mm RARDEN turret, to use on (ex-76mm) SCORPION, to make the (non-NBC proof), 30mm SABRE.

(Merely for information . . . )

"Sabre is a variation of the Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked), featuring the turret from a Fox reconnaissance vehicle mounted on the hull of a Scorpion".

"The FV721 Fox Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Wheeled) (CVR(W)) was a 4 × 4 armoured car manufactured by Royal Ordnance Leeds, deployed by the British Army as a replacement for the Ferret scout car and the Saladin armoured car".

I found a couple of such FOX chassis at Withams, some years ago. But in an act of pure short-sighted vandalism, some bastard had used an acetylene torch, to butcher the rear, so they could more easily extract the Jaguar XK petrol engine :( .

Left open-topped, or with the lighter turret (with 7.62 mm machine gun), from/as on the FERRET, it would have fulfilled the (light) recce role admirably.
There was a prototype called Vixen ,one of which is at Bovington

Take a turret-less Fox or Vixen and stick an MMS on it and you've basically got the Fennek.
Vixen CVR(W) Liasion . . . . .

Small, concealable, agile, lightly armed.

Diametrically opposed to what is now been considered/accepted!

Although the VIXEN is specifically a “liaison” (merely a very cramped “TAXI” version), rather than a Recce vehicle.

Although who would want to ride in the bloody thing, for any length of time - I do not know :( .

"The British Fox 30mm gun armoured car replaced the Ferret scout car in the reconnaissance role but not the liaison role. This was to be the task of a variant of the Fox called the Vixen. It was cancelled so the Ferret had to solider on driving bosses from call signs to call signs long post due. The Vixen was originally planned to just be a Fox without the two man, Rarden gun turret but this “Tall Fox” was seen to have a too high silhouette. So the design was modified with a lower (2m high) and wider hull to make the “Fat Fox”. It could carry four men, multiple radios and the MG turret developed for the FV432. This was accepted by the MoD as the Vixen CVR(W) Liaison but no production order was forthcoming".

“.....US M109 L/52....”

Uh, didn’t we flog off all our M109s to the Austrians who upgraded them and recently sold them on the Latvia (?) and replaced them with that great commercial non success AS90 soon to be gas axed en mass?

Yet again, MOD plays back to the future.
AS90 took our FH-70s and stuck them in a self-propelled chassis. At the time we got it, it outperformed the M109. That we failed to upgrade it, principally with the longer barrel, is our fault, not that of the basic design. Viz. CR2; we let stuff wither on the vine.
