French fleet to blockade Jersey, PM sends in Gunboats

Drivers job....
It's an A job?
The leads will cost a crate though

I have him and SPOTY doing that to me as well.

Not that I give a flying one about it tbh. I think the ignoring of them winds them up even more.
You and various other weaker posters get quite teary when people point out what they've posted is old.

The Navy will probably end up escorting the French into Jersey, in an orderly manner you understand.
The worse part about this is that the wife wants to have a look at a new Peugeot 5008 and has even booked an appointment for tomorrow. What am I to do?
Drive it to the nearest river or large lake, and sink it. Obviously.

IIRC that was one proposed way destroyers could deal with the barges (non-seagoing) that were to be used on Op SEALION in WW2.

And it was bollocks in 1940 and it's still bollocks. I've no idea who came up with that dumb idea, which has turned out to be remarkably difficult to kill off, but they need a slap and to be told to do some research.

I mean here's one of HM's sleek grey war canoes, bristling with guns. There's a flock of Gerry's waddling along with nothing to defend them, and the first thought that comes to mind is 'High speed pass on that boat over there!'? Or would it be 'All hands on deck with Small arms. All weapons, fire as you bare, you'll get charged for any ammo still in your magazines at sunrise!'

I point you in the direction of AJAX with the upgraded ASCOD (new hull transmission power pack - turret*) and LMs - Bae are wrong it will fit in the existing turret vs the Bae CV90 Scout proposal and BAE warrior upgrade for what the policy of anyone but BAE has actually gotten us 10 years and several billion down the line.

*Feel free to identify a component carried over beyond nuts bolts and a sump plug
Want to try that again but this time in English?

Idle mind at the moment, turned to economics.

Suppose it did come to a shooting match, and the Andrew decided to sink the lot (unlikely, I know, but I’m just musing in my mind). What’s the most cost-effective way to do that? I should imagine torpedoes are out, they’re pretty expensive per shot, same with missiles. 30mm cannon is probably going to require thousands, or 10s of thousands of rounds to deal with say 50 boats. The OPVs don’t have 4.5 guns, but if a destroyer or frigate was dispatched with one of those, then just one round per boat ought to do it. But what’s the cost of a 4.5 round compared with say 100rds of 30mm? And indeed the incremental cost of deploying a ship with the gun.

One of these, single HE round on the waterline for each froggy bateau.

The French Navy have sent their stealth warship to fly the flag and confront the Andrew.

I would have thought that depth charges on a shallow setting would have caused sufficient carnage.

I read somewhere that back in the day our MTB's used to tackle similar sized boats by setting a depth charge to very shallow, do a high speed pass and drop it off as close to the target as possible before speeding away........
