A Freedom Parade by troops from the 26th Regiment Royal Artillery, recently returning from operational duties, will take place on Wednesday 22 July, in Birmingham city centre. The regiment also known as The West Midlands Gunners will receive the Freedom of the City on the day. Her Majesty The Queen is their Captain General and the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Michael Wilkes, will officiate over the ceremony, granting the Freedom of the City to this Regiment.

The Lord Mayor, said: "The people of Birmingham will be giving the warmest of welcomes to the 26th Regiment, Royal Artillery on Wednesday, July 22nd - so do get there early. The Regiment, based in Germany, has given courageous service in both Afghanistan and Iraq and I am very proud to be granting them the Freedom of the City."

The Freedom Parade starts in front of the Council House, Victoria Square, and will be accompanied by The Band of Parachute Regiment. The Order of Proceedings follows:

1125 hrs...26th Regiment Royal Artillery march on.
1130 hrs...Officers march on and parade is handed over to the Commanding Officer
1140 hrs...A brief Regimental history and update on recent operations is read out
1155 hrs...The Lord Mayor is maced to the dais accompanied by the Honorary Colonel
The Regiment presents Arms, followed by a General Salute.

1200 hrs...Freedom Ceremony
*The Lord Mayor will read the resolution
*The Honorary Colonel will respond
*The minutes’ silence and Regimental Collect
*The Lord Mayor, accompanied by the Honorary Colonel and Commanding Officer, will inspect the Regiment.
* The Commanding Officer will request the permission of the Lord Mayor to exercise his right to march his Regiment through the city streets
* The Lord Mayor will grant permission. General Salute.

1225 hrs...The Regiment will march from Victoria Sq into New Street,
Cannon Street, Cherry Street, Temple Row, Temple Row
West, Colmore Row and back into Victoria square

The Parade disperses at the rear of the Council House
Invited guests move to the Council House
1245 hrs...The Lord Mayor will receive guests in the Banqueting Suite
1430 hrs...Conclusion of events
Normally they forget to tell anyone these are happening, hopefully this time we can get the news about and get a few people there!
