Thought i would share a snippet of intel for those who wouldnt normally know....

TFL (Transport For London) are now offering a special Oyster Card (thats the pre pay swipe card for busses, Tubes, Trams, DLR and some Trains in the London Area for War Pensioner and those on the Armed Services Compensation Scheme.

This Oyster Card is called VCTS Oyster Card and gives you...

Free at all times on
Bus
Tube
Tram
DLR
London Overground
and "Some" rail Services
and "some" National Rail Services except between 0430 - 0930

its free to apply, you need a form www.tfl.gov.uk/veterans for more info or call 0845 331 9872

If you have a Blue Badge for disabled drivers (doesnt matter if you are a veteran or not) you can also get 100% discount on the Congestion Charging Zone too, you have to apply and there is an admin fee iirc of £10

it lasts as long as your badge has left to run and you can nominate upto 2 cars a day on the scheme.

As i find more stuff i will post on here.

If anyone else finds useful stuff can you post too?

can a MOD make this a Sticky please?

It has been reported in some newspapers (national and local) that War Pensioners are entitled to a Blue Badge without an expiry date - THIS IS NOT TRUE! I have just verified this with DfT Blue Badge Helpline - 0161 367 0009

BTW as a blue Badge holder you are entitled to concessions on many toll tunnels/bridges - see attached

Blue Badge parking scheme from Directgov - click!
