Formula 1 - 2021 season

Just what F1 needs, another child with anger and ego issues.
My bold edit.

I think it goes with the territory these days, and doesn't just apply to F1, or any other genre of autosport.

Ferrari have a brand new engine for 2021. Bit strange to go to all that trouble for one season.

IIRC the only change in the engine rules of 2022 is the introduction of 10% bio fuel? The FIA wanted to remove some complexity from the current engines to encourage new manufacturers, but none showed interest. So the current teams voted for continuity?

According to the Daily Express, that well known specialist publication, Russell could replace Bottas for next season.

I'm still waiting for the foot of snow and blizzards they predicted for last week, so far there has been one reasonably heavy frost

Plenty of snow last week at Monza!

With Max Verstappen winning the last GP of the 2020 season the commentators were quick to speculate that RB will be able to challenge for the title next season.

A few points that they‘ve overlooked.

1. Both Mercs were wounded in that last race, the MGUs had to be turned down because of issues with it.

2. LH was still recovering from the effects of COVID.

3. Merc’s sole purpose was to have VB finish 2nd in the WDC - accomplished.

4. Mercedes haven’t developed the car this year, they focused on the 2021 car very early on. RB have played catch up throughout the year, beating Mercedes on the last GP is, to some degree, irrelevant considering titles were wrapped up ages ago.

5. RBs second driver for 2021 may not provide the support required.

6. RB still have to find an engine for 2022 and develop a car around it.

Well that was two hours of my life I won't get back.................! Proper gutted for Perez not a good way to bow out of Racing Point. Pleased for McLaren to pick up 3rd place in the constructors though, coupled with new investment and the Merc engine...let's hope they can challenge the top two teams next season.

Beautifully put Dinger!

I wonder if McLaren will put more emphasis on the 2022 car? A new engine means quite a large scale repackaging the car, that's a lot of cost and effort for a car that will only last one year before wholesale changes to design for 2022?

you will not see a customer engine powered car making a serious challenge to the manufacturer team. they might make second behind merc - and I hope they will - they have got a great driver pairing and I have to eat my words about ZB - I can't deny he knows what he's about when I had my doubts previously - but that will be it. you need a dedicated works deal with the full might and resources of whatever company it is behind you. the time of building a brilliant chassis in a shed and bolting a cossie to the back of it long gone. more's the pity, in some ways.

7. they have an idiot behind the wheel.

He is, but he’s also capable of winning races. I would speculate that RB will deem this a great victory and won’t concede that things out of their control were in their favour.

They could still challenge next year because they are there or thereabouts and we don’t know how the new cars will perform.

My money is still on Mercedes, primarily because of their attitude and approach. Expect Ferrari to be closer and McLaren an unknown as will be Aston Martin. This year was Merc out in front, RB second with really no one else to trouble them, they could concentrate on chasing the Mercs. If next year is closer and RB have to look over their shoulders, they will find it harder. MV will find himself in more positions that bring out the worst in him as the likes of Danny Ric, CLC and the others close up.
