Formula 1 - 2021 season

As the 2020 season draws to a close, with a truly dominant series of drives from Lewis Hamilton (who concurrently proves to be quite a controversial figure in himself) we can now start to look forward to the 2021 season.

Will the 'new kid on the block' George Russell, who must have given Valtteri Bottas quite a shock on his debut at Mercedes standing in for LH, gain in confidence and stature back at Williams? Will other teams improve to challenge Mercedes' dominance as a constructor? Will LH gain his 8th WC title? Will Checko get the drive he richly deserves?

As always, please use this thread to discus Formula 1 only, if you wish to discuss touring cars, NASCAR, Indy Car, or the organ donors in Moto GP and others then create a thread for discussions on those subjects, thank you.

I read on the 2020 thread that the pit lane rumour is that Hamilton's negotiation with Merc aren't going well. How true this is I don't know. But they seem to have a ready made replacement in Russell. Younger, cheaper & without the baggage. What's not to like....

And let's all play nicely together.

No denying his driving talent.

But I wouldn't be sorry to see LH go, he is a bit of a tw*t after all.

it'll get settled. setting THE all time record for wdc's in a Merc? that's publicity no amount of money can buy you. if anything, Bottas should be looking over his shoulder (and is by more than a few accounts). it would make sense for Merc to bring george in as Lewis's protege, in the way Cevert was intended to succeed Stewart. Lewis knows he's got fewer years in front of him than he has behind him - it would make sense for Merc to get that line of succession in place now. GR will do a better job than Bottas while learning everything Lewis knows and building that deep relationship with the team.

I don’t think negotiations have even started. Toto stated that they needed to sit around a table and sort it out, but hadn’t had chance. Then LH gets covid. I doubt now we will here anything until after this last race.

I’ll be mindful not to put a foot wrong in this thread. Sorry I took CTD down with me.

What's the asterix next to 9 May - Barcelona?

Teams and driver line ups.

That 'baggage' is exactly what Mercedes marketing want. In the current climate, a woke black driver on the edge of becoming a record-breaker in F1 is a marketing dream. If they could find a top Chinese/Asian driver to put along side him then it would mission complete for the advertising department.

It's disappointing to not see Portimao on the 2021 calendar. Maybe the TBD on April 25th is under negotiations.
