Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

Here is a totally off the wall question which I am posting on behalf of a mate:

He is a brain surgery specialist (EU citizen) working in a teaching hospital and is GMC registered and is a serving reservist. He would like to volunteer for Afghanistan.

Is there any way he could join a UK surgical unit for PDT and deployment, as his country does not have a significant presence in Afghanistan?

  2. If he is a 'serving reservist' then surely all he has to do is go through his chain of command!

Also, how are his general surgery, ortho etc skills? theres not much call on ops for surgeons who are one trick ponies.

  3. If he is a Neuro surgeon then I doubt he will have any problems....He would be paid very well if he went as a contractor with Frontier Medical ( usually looking for Neurosurgeons for Afghanistan ! ).
