Foreign Aid Ring Fenced, whilst public servces slashed 40%

#1
Media reports are abuzz with stories that David Cameron has ordered Ministers to draw up 40 percent spending cuts — while a new report just out has revealed a series of staggeringly stupid projects included in the £9 billion “ring fenced” foreign aid budget.

The rumoured 40 percent cut is 15 percent higher than the figure given by Chancellor George Osborne in his emergency budget speech, and if it comes to pass, will see additional massive job losses across the public sector.

Even a 25 percent cut will see tens of thousands of policemen, teachers, town hall workers and other civil servants end up on the dole and entire sections of the civil service are set to be shut down.

A new report issued by the International Policy Network (IPN) think tank has shocked observers with a new overview of how the foreign aid budget, administered by the Department for International Development, is spent.

According to the IPN report, £3.6 million of DFID has been given to the Labour-supporting TUC for “advocacy and lobbying work to build support for development in the United Kingdom.”

It has yet to be shown exactly how the TUC has lobbied anybody to “support development.”

The IPN report also revealed that £756,000 was spent on a “Strategic Framework Partnership Agreement” which funded TUC training on how to apply for DFID grants.

In addition, the DFID gave £600,000 to set up a think tank called “Connections For Development” (CFD) which has as its aim the provision of a “forum for black and ethnic minority organisations on issues relating to international development.”

A 2007 audit of the CFD found that 40 percent of the members listed on its online presence did not have email addresses, and that the leaders of the organisation displayed a “lack of demonstrable experience in international development.”

Other astonishing grants highlighted in the IPN report include:

- £1 million to the “Global Education Derby” which supposedly teaches primary school children that “unequal development fosters poverty and conflict”;

- £190,000 to the Scottish Development Education Centre to teach nursery and pre-school children about foreign aid on the premise that “attitudes begin to develop at a very young age”;

- £183,375 to the Brighton Peace and Environment Centre for “pictures showing how individuals in different parts of the world are intrinsically linked through the challenge of climate change”;

- £300,000 to the National Union of Teachers to “enable them to become global agents of change”; and

- £1 billion every year to the EU to distribute to “developing countries.”

Caroline Boin, who co-authored the research for the IPN think tank, said: “It is a travesty to add billions to the foreign aid budget in the middle of a national crisis. The Government wants to sack 35,000 police officers while it pours money into a Department notorious for nonsensical projects.”

Once again, the interests of the British people have been put last.

Oh dear!

You wonder what sort of "do gooder" type idiots keep pissing money down the black hole that is most of the overpopulated, developing third world, just to allow their corrupt leaders to buy fleets of brand new mercedes, more weapons to subjugate their population, and top up their Swiss bank accounts! How they can justify any aid to China, India & Pakistan amazes me, all are nuclear armed powers, have massive defence budgets & are trying to get into space! Let them look after their own people first!
We should scrap all of the multicultural, diversity and human rights industries in this country, take a hard look at much of the overblown "health & safety " industry as well. Opt out of Europe, or at least renegotiate downwards the billions we squander there!
This would really reduce our defecit quickly!

Foreign Aid… every time they hear that phrase, the shareholders in Mercedes rub their hands with glee!

Bear in mind that Dfid gives Kenya around £100 million a year when reading this from the BBC

MPs in Kenya have voted to boost their own salaries, making them among the world's best paid politicians.

Under the new legislation, the Kenyan prime minister will take home over a third more than his British counterpart.

He will also earn almost 10% more than the US president.
Foreign Aid is a way of taking money from poor people in rich countries and giving it to rich people in poor countries.

The foreign aid budget is a drop in the ocean - less than 1% of government expenditure. It was ring fenced to stop Labour waving photos of starving Ethiopians during the election.

Of course, like much government expenditure, foreign aid has become a slush fund for the unions and a means of funding whatever loony left wet dream happens to be in vogue. I read recently of a gay hairdressing collective in Tanzania that's funded by, err, me. However, my favourite remains the half a million quid given to Swaziland and used to buy a top of the range, £300k Maybach limousine for the king and a fleet of BMWs for his numerous wives. As a bonus, there was enough cash left over to rent the national stadium and throw a birthday party for the king and 10,000 friends.

There has been a predictable, kneejerk reaction from the likes of ACPO. There wont be 35,000 coppers sacked. Long before that number of redundancies had been achieved, continued funding of groups like ACPO would become untenable. In fact, if Theresa May manages things properly, there wont be a single copper made redundant before everybody with "diversity", "LGBT", "outreach", "gypsy", "traveller" or "interfaith" in their job titles is given a P45 and the minimum, legal amount of redundancy pay.

Swazi king splashes on luxury car

King Mswati is one of an elite few who can afford the Maybach
Swaziland's King Mswati has bought a $500,000 (£260,000) luxury car.
Reports of the absolute monarch's latest purchase contrast with accounts of suffering in Swaziland, which has the highest Aids rate in the world.

The Maybach car has a television, DVD player, 21-speaker surround-sound system, fridge, cordless telephone and sterling silver champagne flutes.

The 36-year-old king frequently hits the headlines with stories about his lavish lifestyle.

In April this year, 10,000 guests celebrated his 36th birthday at an event estimated to have cost $600,000, prompting widespread criticism from those who said the country could ill-afford to host such an event.

Swaziland's unemployment rate stands at 40% while almost 70% of the country's one-million population live on an average daily income of $1 or less.

About one third of all Swaziland's people rely on food aid for survival.

Elite group

"We feel great that the king of Swaziland has chosen our product, this shows that our product has arrived. This kind of car is the super high end of the luxury segment," DaimlerChrysler South Africa's spokesperson Fanyana Shiburi told the Times of Swaziland.

Luxurious inside and out... the Maybach has a fridge, DVD player and silver champagne flutes
"Our customers are exclusive people, the super-rich, the kings and queens, oil-rich countries, North Africans and massive lottery winners," he added.

Just three other people in Southern Africa are reported to own DaimlerChrysler's flagship Maybach 62.

"It is unfortunate the king's government is unable to prioritize and do things that will save the nation, as opposed to the interests of the monarch and his family," said Nomthetho Simelane from the University of Swaziland.

In a country where nearly 40% of adults are HIV positive, the king is also criticised for having 11 wives and two fiancees.

In recent years, he has asked parliament for $15m to build a palace for each of his spouses and $45m to buy a royal jet.

Street protests led to him abandoning the plans to buy a luxury jet."

Dave doesn't half talk a load of rubbish sometimes. I've just seen a bulldozer driving up to the front of the now deserted East of England Development Authority HQ.

The cuts ARE feeling good - and the really good stuff wont start until next year. Already, I envisage the Equality and Human Rights Commission failing to secure a new lease on their prestigious headquarters.

Derek Simpson has binned all of those Bentley Motors brochures now that the union modernisation fund is gone.

Stonewall is winding down its campaign against "homophobic" number plates on cars as the 50%+ of their income that's provided by government starts to dry up. Bloody hell! They wont be able to update their iPhones every six months if this carries on.

WTF is wrong with the UK. With all that aid the dictators should have to add a few Daimlers, Jags and Bristols into the mix.

With our US aid we should require that they buy at least a few Cadillacs and keep the new owners, Obama and the United Auto Workers happy.

It's very depressing, really. The insanity of 'aid' to the bandits has been a cornerstone of the New Labour hypocrisy for many years; I'd hoped that the Tories would have instantly seen to its demise, but they're just as deeply into the political leveraging game it represents as Blair and the gang. Meanwhile, the people who we should really be investing our spare cash in go hungry, beaten, badly treated and unsheltered. There are hundreds of thousands of English, Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish in that position. Pity they aren't voters, eh?

I have a sneaking suspicion that the British taxpayer has poured more money into the Indian space program than into our own...... I can't see how that is defensible.

#17
While I'm unconvinced by the whole aid ring-fencing, if the Tories go through with some of the less headline-grabbing ideas they had pre-coalition (which included obtaining some rapid response air transport looking not unlike a few C-130Js, operated by the RAF and available for non-humanitarian duties as required...), this might not be quite as mad as it sounds. There have also been murmurings that the aid might be given to NGOs and to specific projects so as to prevent the cash going into numbered Swiss bank accounts, etc. Whether this'll happen, or whether the aid industry will confound it remains to be seen. I'm not hopeful...

My scepticism about aid aside, am I right in thinking that BR has lifted his post from the BNP website (again)?

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. And I'm not your 'pal'

This is a viral from the BNP. British People Facing... - Ubervu social conversation

'Lift' what you want. But have the nuts to quote your source. In this case, the British National Party.

Unless you're particularly insecure - which I doubt - you don't need my or anyone else's permission to cut and paste.

Unlike in the place I work, taking the view that you can cut and paste without any attribution won't end your service career in less time that it takes to say 'Wheel the plagiarising cheat in, XO' my gripe isn't that important - it's merely that it's bloody rude to apparently present someone else's efforts (even if that person is a racist attempting to appear reasonable) as your own, particularly if the post might have some agenda behind it. You could be a BNP acolyte, or even a journo putting up BNP material in a bid to create a story showing that soldiers are in favour of the party's line on all sorts of things, thus giving credence to the utter horse put out that the army is crawling with BNP supporters...

Since your grandfather would have fought for freedom of speech alongside two of my uncles at Arnhem, let's cut the possible 'what did your relatives do for freedom of speech in the war' pissing contest off here, shall we?
