As much as I think Brown is an end of the bell variety just read this about about gifts were exchanged between Brown and Obama

Given Obama's fathers history of dislike of the British, despite this the fact that his ancestors would have likely been whisked off from Africa by Islamic slave traders if it werent for the Royal Navy, Brown gave Obama the following as symbolic gifts

An ornamental desk pen holder made from the oak timbers of Victorian anti-slaver HMS Gannet, once named HMS President. Mr Obama was so delighted he has already put it in pride of place in the Oval Office on the Resolute desk which was carved from timbers of Gannet's sister ship, HMS Resolute.

Another treasure given to the U.S. President was the framed commission for HMS Resolute, a vessel that came to symbolise Anglo-US peace when it was saved from ice packs by Americans and given to Queen Victoria.

Finally, Mr Brown gave a first edition set of the seven-volume classic biography of Churchill by Sir Martin Gilbert.

What did Brown get in return

A 25-DVD box set of classic American films and 2 plastic helicopters for his kids from the Whitehouse giftshop

As I said, Brown is a cnut but that is taking the p1ss and is one of many fcuk ups the Obama presidency has already committed.

How long do you think the honeymoon period is going to last?

Does this signal a cooling off in the 'special relationship'

The special relationship is more about military, technical and intel cooperation, it would take a lot more than a bad personal relationship between premiers to change it.

It is often cited that Reagan, Clinton and Bush were anglophiles and therefore we gained some advantage from the relationship. Whilst this is undoubtably true to an extent, certainly in terms of access, I doubt any commercial benefit, for instance, was ever accrued. Quite frankly the gumps are like piranhas mounted on cavalry when it comes to business; little in Brown's agenda would be of any interest to Obama's camp.

The pen holder sounds mawkish and undiplomatic if anything.
  3. OR, Mr Obama's administration, unlikely as it may be, forgot/neglected to purchase/acquire anything more 'relevant' and Brown was fobbed off with whatever White House Staffers could find in their cars.
  4. DVD boxed set?

Was "Roots" on it? Classic series that.
  5. Guido,as ever, has his own take on things.

Gordon brown the musical:a mixture of citizen cain and psycho anyone?

    Reference the Obama 'snub'.

If Bush could manage a slap up meal for the PM of the day then why not Obama? Its not as if he had to peel the spuds himself,is it?

I sense a bit of backtracking from the whitehouse. Why they put a spin on it I do not know. It's about time Brown suffered a taste of the contempt that his government reserves for the British people.

Keep up the good work says I.
  6. I wonder if Brown was switched on enough to ensure that the discs were Region 2 compatible otherwise he and his wife are going to be puzzled one evening when they can't figure out why none of them play! :D
  7. On a separate topic. Tao te Ching by any chance mate???
  8. You uncultured philistines.

The 25 'American classics' in question included groundbreaking cinema such as Back Door Sluts 9, Tits of Fury, Brassiere to Eternity, Gangbangs of New York and the touching Pile-driving Miss Daisy.

    Pearls before swine.
  9. No, they kissed and made love again ! And the whole world lived happily ever after :!:
  10. And not out of the question, if that news came out it would be even more tragi-comical
  11. It was a Tasteless act on Obambi's part. Even if you all dont like Brown(And Thats your right of course), he is your official representative. It is an Embarrassment to treat an ally like you just went out to the 7-11 for some movies and Ripple and threw them in his lap.

Not everyone gets treated so shabbily
At least we know who ordered the Kennedy knighthood

BARACK Obama will stage a lavish reception for ex-IRA chief Martin McGuinness - days after snubbing Gordon Brown.
The US president will hold two hours of talks with the former terror boss - more than FOUR TIMES the time he granted the PM.
The News of the World can reveal the astonishing snub has infuriated Downing Street and the British Embassy in Washington.
McGuinness, now Deputy First Minister in Northern Ireland, flies to America tomorrow (MONDAY) with First Minister Peter Robinson on a ten day tour.
And the pair will enjoy two hours of talks with the US president and a luxurious gala reception on St Patrick's Day, in nine days’ time.
Mr Brown was forced to use a side entrance at the White House and spent just 30 minutes in private talks with the new US President.
Mr McGuinness will walk in through the front door and be given the full State Visit treatment, and will party into the small hours at a special Irish-themed party.
In contrast, a joint press conference with President Obama and the Prime Minister was cancelled by President Obama’s team and the pair had a brief working lunch.
But McGuinness and Robinson will be given a grand reception and will be guests of honour at the star-studded party.

  13. Nearly right. What Brown actually received was Rocco Sifredi's celebrated '**** quartet'.
