Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I am saddened to report the demise of another 'forgotten hero'.. I knew him personally and was privileged to have a drink in his presence.. Charley Fox.. Canadian WWII fighter pilot..

Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross [ with Bar ].. credited with destroying 153 German vehicles of all types and in 2004 officially recognized as the pilot who strafed Field Marshall Rommel's staff car, wounding him, and taking him out of the war.

Never bragged or boasted of his accomplishments, but was modest to the end. just doing what was required, he'd say...

Doubt the mainstream press will give his passing more than a brief mention, if at all, so thought I'd mention it here...I'm sure he'd appreciate a quiet drink in his honour by those who know of serving one's country...
