Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. hey all, currently on my fitter gen assessment and need a bit of help on cooling systems. I need to find out the two valves found in the radiator cap and their purpose

  2. The radiator cap is in fact only one valve, a pressure release valve, and on cars it is usually set to 15 psi.

As the liquid cools there is an inlet valve that allows water in from the overflow/header tank.

By the looks of your study methods you'll be a CoW by next month!!

  3. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/cooling-system7.htm

This will give you a diagram and explanation of how it works.

Re previous post, it depends on how the system is designed to return coolant to the radiator, some use the radiator overflow tube, in and out, ie landrover, some use a connection in the bottom radiator hose to put the expanded coolant back, this form needs different vac release arrangement.

If you need "basic stuf" this web site explains a lot of other related topics.

    Hope this helps

  4. If he is going to be a CoW, why work for it
