Outstanding! :thumright: Women are in general better at conflict resolution than men IMHO as I have witnessed that many times in Northern Ireland. Good luck to them and as the article says that they have Ops/Combat experience they will be able to look after themselves

Those Libereians had better watch out, or stay indoors at least for 1 week out of 4 - imagine the carnage when they all co-ordinate the bleed

Either a lot of filled body bags or a lot of "Please stop fighting we cant handle it" from 105 weeping Bints once a month

I bet they don't do the same thing in Iraq, or worse Afghan! There is a limit to the stupidity, even of the UN.

Must be difficult to resist the predictable comments about menstruation, gosh, especially in the face of the entire female part of the planet downing dusters and pans EVERY MONTH for Chrissake -what! you mean that DOESN'T happen?! Hellfire, I must have got that confused with the bouts of inactivity brought about by man flu and dicky tummies brought about by excessive drinking of dirty beer.....

Sarcasm aside, it will frankly be a relief to many people that we can deploy a UN force where we at least we don't have to worry about the rape of local women and children by the very people sent to protect them.

They do like their colourful badges, don't they. Almost as much as RAF aircrew.

Still wouldn't want to cross them, at any time of the month.

Wonder where they keep their truncheons when not on duty.

Bet they are all on parade going "Bitch! She is wearing the same outfit as me." I know it sends Mrs Taffridge into a foaming frenzy when we step out for the evening and someones got the same dress on.

From MOD Oracle:

UN 'All Women' Peacekeeper Unit

Wednesday, January 31, 2007

The UN's first women-only peacekeeping contingent - made up of about 100 Indian policewomen - arrived in Liberia yesterday, officials said.

Ben Malor, spokesman for the UN's 15,000-strong peacekeeping force in the country, said the force will be stationed in the capital, Monrovia.

Women have served in many UN peacekeeping forces, but this is the first women-only group. Members of the group have said they hope their unit will be seen as more approachable by women and children in conflict zones.

The women will be formed into three platoons of 30 and while they will be based in Monrovia, they may be deployed anywhere in the country.
India's decision to send the all-female officers to assist the Unmil (United Nations Mission in Liberia) operation was announced last September and over the past few months the team has been undergoing intensive training.

The FPU (formed police unit), which will be better armed than a regular unit, will provide general support to UN police activities in Liberia, including protecting UN officials and civilian police as they perform their duties, plus also acting as a rapid reaction force for crowd control and helping train local police officers, the UN said.

The group may be particularly welcome in Liberia, where last year relief groups accused UN peacekeepers and aid workers of trading food for sex with girls left homeless by war. The UN has since instituted strong policies to prevent sexual exploitation in the country.

As I said......
