Finally the UN want gender quotas - more women to be in battle :-)

For years women have been bleating on about equality - now the UN want to send more women from the British Army to Mali to fight terrorists.

GOOD - about time too, if they take the pay, they can do their share or the work.

Story Here:

Mind you there were lots of women out in Iraq & Afghanistan - but mostly medics and clerks, RLC drivers & stores. Now we have women in the infantry the UN want them to go out on operations - I wonder how they will fare on those type of ops? Probably fairly well I'd imagine - but time will tell.

I pity the first Jihadi who says their bum looks big in that, when the women are visiting Aunt Erma

This should be posted in large letters everywhere that quotas are suggested/imposed:

Speaking last night former combat medic Chantelle Taylor who, while serving in Afghanistan in 2008, became the first female British soldier to kill an enemy in combat, said:

“Operations like these are not about box-ticking. The British Army should be free to choose who is best placed for deployment, regardless of gender.”

The British Army has been ALL ABOUT BOX TICKING for years decades now. That's why we have the Gays, the BAME, Women in Infantry and special forces etc.....The UK government has been making an 'All inclusive' Army for a long time - now it's time that these 'All inclusive' soldiers earned their pay - they same way as their work mates do.

I agree with the sentiment but would you rather have a competent person net to you or someone who is there to tick a box?

In the future as the pool gets bigger both should be possible.

If they are not competent already they shouldn't get promoted, they also shouldn't have passed training. The Army deemed them competent already when they passed their courses and took the pay.

Reading the article makes me glad to be a deplorable. The UN is on a high horse. They should be happy your government is deploying a force for this mission. Not dictating who must deploy to check off a box.

also shouldn't have passed training.
ahahahahaaaahahahaaaa

nothing to do with gender, sexuality etc but while I was at an ATR it was just a production* line. It was all about numbers.
We couldn't even get rid of one particular crow who was clearly a danger to himself and his eventual unit.

*I would have said 'sausage machine' but that could cause offence.

I strongly suspect that if we don't reach the quota the UN isn't going to send someone else to go in our place

What happens if the UK don't meet the quota? Do they get sent home from Mali?

I suspect that if the UK simply agreed with the UN and then went ahead and did whatever they wanted to anyway, the UN would issue a statement of how disappointed they were and that would be the end of it.

It's probably a good idea to try to get more women on these sorts of ops, as getting the local women on side can be important if they are believed to be more amenable than the men to providing intelligence and things like that.

It may not be practical or advisable given the available resources however, in which case the UN will have to face a take it or leave it situation. I'm not really sure how the UN would know how many women the UK provided though unless the UK turns over their personnel files, which I think would be unlikely.

If worse comes to worst, a few of the more burly and ill-shaven men could be assigned to say that they self-identify as women, and let the UN make of that what they wished.

Why do we want to send any soldiers be they're male or female to Mali ? its not our problem and I am certain the locals won't thank you for the deployment. The UN seemingly want to set conditions and since when do our men and women carry a weapon for the rest of the world.

Let the superpowers like China carry the load.

What about the BAME quota? What about the Asian quota? What about the Muslim quota? What about the LGBTQ+ quota? What about the Trans quote? Outrageous only picking on one easily identifiable perceived minority group. I'm triggered!!!!

The French Army used to have at least two males soldiers escorting every female one, in Afghanistan
