Fiji to remove the Union Jack from their flag!

In a bold move to reinforce their independence and to rid themselves of signs and symbols of their colonial past, the Fijian Prime Minister - I won't attempt to jot down the fellows name - has decided to drop the Union Jack from his country's flag.

Perhaps he'd like some of his people back from that terrible colonial power?

Someone is feeling a bit precious are you ok diddums?

Anyway from the Telegraph article posted elsewhere:

Mr Bainimarama asked, saying the images were "honoured symbols of our past, but not our future".
Growing up, moving on, it's their country they can chose the national symbols they want.

If the entire population think they need a re-brand then fine. If it's just Mr Bananarama that thinks this, then he should be told where to get off. The current flag - contrary to popular belief - isn't the old colonial flag, but rather the result of a competition held in the run up to independence in 1970. If it ain't broke etc.

If they remove the Union Flag, does that mean it can now be flown from Belfast city hall?

RIP
The earth shook as the Fijians changed their flag ..

Since they want to forget about us English, I hope that this extends to matters of aid. Financial aid in particular.
