Female promotion in the Royal Engineers

#1
Hi
You will have to excuse me im new to this site so ive probably put this thread in the wrong area. Im just wondering what promotion is like for female Sappers? (and im guessing ill probably get the obligatory sucking off senior ranks for promotion comment)
Obviously i know it depends on ability within your job role but I have friends in the Engineers and some say females are often promoted faster and others say the complete opposite?
could some people give me their opinions?
cheers

you might get better answer in the regimental bit as yes you will get spit roasted by all and sundry in the general bit.

its the usual though, do the courses, show initiative and shout a lot :) foot inspections are allways a good one as it shows you care.

Best Staff I know is female. The worst Staff I've met was female. (neither were RE)

I'd hope promotion is down to nothing more than ability - but above illustrates that isn't the case. Be the best you can be, don't take any shit and give as good as you get. You've got my respect already.

Cheers for that, Looking a bit far ahead atm but Im hoping im seen as worthy for promotion within a normal timescale im older that the majority of recruits and worked in management for years so I hope they see that as maturity and leadership skills, just hope the other Sappers dont see me as old and boring! :D

that might work if you are correctly dressed for the occasion. :)

I hope you do allright but if you start to show some ability you might be as well going for a commission if you get any shit from the jealous crowd of which there will be many, watch out for you weaknesses, I knew a RAF lass who let slip she was afraid of heights so they taped her to the roof of a hangar looking down. she never came climbing after that.

dont try and force yourself to be a leader of men, if what you say is quick off the mark and makes sense they will listen and follow, especially if you can prove that you can do it just as well as they can. if you learn something new then pass it on, and try to get on an MOI as soon as possible then a trade course or medics so you can use it to good effect.

if you've got a good head then use the regular time to get fit and be super quick at sorting out your kit they might even put you forward for commission. thats or get used to being called mum a lot

Cheers for the advice, tbh I never 'try' to be a leader of anyone if I have an idea or something to say Ill generally go ahead and say it if I think it will work or if I feel people arent putting the effort in Ill try and push them forward but failing that thats when ill attempt to take over (maybe a bad thing me having management experience) lol

if you were a size 18 then the sgts mess would beckon :)

play it by ear and let your mumsy side take over, bollock were necessary and take care of your chicks with your worldly ways, it is generally appreciated however much they will take the piss.

Na im a size 6 so thats out the window lol, I have no mumsy side at all hence me being 28 with no kids and joining the army Id be more likely to give someone a kick up the backside and a good throttle if they were feeling sorry for themselves than to mother and take care of them

is that army size six or polish standard size six if so you'll snap surely and have to wind your webbing around at least twice to do the belt up!
Hahaha yeah im the tiny size 6 luckily im muscly tho so i wont snap under the weight of a bergan, will look like a stick man though in an issue helmet and boots, think i may have to shop at online cadet shops. :D
