Female MP Receives Silver Star

#2
Give the woman credit she stuck in there which is great to see.
Though I fear woman in combat for the propaganda angel of things.
Wonder how much the US Government will milk this one.

Take care, 2CB

I remember reading this too a wee while ago.

The way I read it was that she'd be getting a DSC (Brit equvalent would be the DSO or CGC) did some HQ penpusher downgrade the award or something? God knows she deserved it - no shades of Jessica Lynch here - reservist too! Hope they gave her the CIB she earned too.

Brave woman who earned her award. Sickening that some sort of political interfearance seems to have got involved.
Folks who wouldn't know or care what was required.

Tom,

Will she get the CIB?

Well done her and everything , but I think the CIB would really be something special for her.

Impressed the Spams got her gong to her promptly. If she had to wait for our Medal Office to spark the war in Iraq would be over!

I read the story in the Torygraph today - a courageous, decisive and wholly professional employment of initiative, drills and tactics. Well done and a well earned Silver Star!

What price now the idea of no women in the infantry then?
I know where your coming from but she didnt tab to the fight. In my opinion the real moral of the story here is there is no longer a "rear area" in this kind of operation. The inf may be the ones to go off and fight proper battles but everyone is at risk of a come as you are invitation be they REMF, reservist or Recon.

Surely it is performance that counts. Agree that aggro breaks out all around us/you nowadays. We have no evidence that she could not have tabbed there. Objections have included line that lads would be too worried about the girlies to perform. Didn't apply here - good drills all round plus 2 other blokes in the firefight also got Silver Star. US Govt trying to play down her involvement as it does not accord with their chauvinistic attitude. If girlies cannot hack it, why was there one on escort duty -and a US monkey at that - where the shed presumably know war is all over the place>

The CIB is awarded only to Infantrymen [MOS 11B]. She will qualify for the new Close Combat Badge.

Tom6, I may be wrong here and please correct me if I am, but didn't an MP bint who was involved in a contact bitch until she got the CIB during Op Desert Storm ?
I heard that there was a bunch of US Army blokes that were well pissed off about that !

As someone said at the time, it was like giving para wings to some bugger that parachuted from an aeroplane that was crashing...
