The great Arthur Lowe was a former soldier of D (DLOY) SQN RMLY

This got me thinking has anyone else got any famous people that used to serve in their regiments surely nobody can top capt Mannering as a previous squaddie. Give it your best shot but they have to be pretty impressive to out do capt Mainwaring.

ps I always wondered where our trainers got there tactics lessons from!
Siegfried Sassoon, Robert Graves, Ken Barlow, Desmond Llewellyn ...............
Geoffrey Woolley VC

First TA VC of WW1 IIRC?

Ken Barlow?
I knew his "Uncle" Albert went over the top with the Manchester Regiment as did Nora Batty's husband Joe from Last of the Summer Wine; but Ken Barlow just reminds me of one of those winging nigs that thinks a regimental bath is some kind of torture!
Richard Holmes was CO of 2 Wessex "back in the day"
Billy connelly joined the (TA) parachute regiment...
Pat Morley - what a guy! Oh and Norman Wisdom too - Both Chunks
