Unfortunately not. The author tends to lean heavily towards the Germans, excusing their actions as "reprisals".

There are so many memorials on Crete to this executions. The Cretans are an island race, very proud, and fought them on the beaches, in the olive groves, in the mountains, and never surrendered.

Not far from Kondomari is another small town, Alikianos, by a river with a beautiful stone bridge.
I have a house 3km away in Koufos.
I used to regularly chat to an old chap who was 9 years old when his mother and almost 100 other people were rounded up and shot in the dry riverbed.
He only survived because she hid him under her skirt.
