Oh dear. Got a mate who works in Mt Pleasant and lives down there. Want more info? PM me.
Be prepared to be bored.
And have retreads screw things up.
Plus Crab Air admin.
Generally the contractors smash it up every night, it's a haven for functioning alcoholics. Mil and MOD CS live in separate accommodation and appear to do more with their spare time.
The LMA complex...... handed over to the Mil on the 1/1/87, what else is there to do at MP? Horde and sell AA batteries at a seriously inflated price or queue for the phone?
In 86/87 ,Just finished my 3 nights shift and was kicked out my bed to move down to the LMA from the RAF accommodation immediately, the RSM and the SWO had an agreement that we could take till the 4th to move...... but the SWO suddenly had a wendy (As all RAF do).
Is it still called the "Death Star"?
We had a RAF corporal that wore a brown work coat and was in charge of the BID (CRYPTO) room, as the Army (Royal Signals) manned the place 24 hours a day, his 9-5 pointless existence was interesting..... especially for us old Germany lags that had cuddled our BID 200's for warmth.
When you get there, could you have a look at where the big red arrow is pointing.
Let me know if the area is still burning after a Rapier missile nose dived there in 1983/4.
I'm looking at a MOD job located at Mount Pleasant. The job is for 1 or 2 years depending on my own choice, so a bit longer than the standard military tour.
Can anybody tell me what it's like to live in the officers mess there? Is it dull? Is the internet shit?
Go fishing. Learn to spearfish and poach lobster while you're at it. Take along a couple of those blue sealable 50 litre barrels and a shit load of curry powder. Make pickled fish and bring it home when you return. Even makes the lobster taste good.
Got Family on West Falkland, ok if you like Lamb & Mutton and are a bit hardy.
If you like sainsburys, being a vegan & nice weather don't go.
That said the nicest people you could meet and very friendly.
