F35 - Money well spent.

Trouble is, the Yanks have a counter:
”You can buy whatever you want, but if you want access to our intel it has to start with “F” and be made in the US.”

And there's an awful lot of Canada that Septic radar, comms and EW can't see over. It could be argued that they need Canadian co-operation more - - don't most of the Alaskan pipelines cross Canuck turf?

Much of the NORAD radar system is in Canada. There is a new North Warning System being discussed now to replace the existing one. Canada pays a disproportionate share of the cost, and the Americans are trying to roll the cost of their new missile defence system (which will probably flop again after pissing away vast sums of money like the previous attempts) into the budget so that Canada will pay for that as well.

No. The Alaska pipeline crosses Alaska from south to north and terminates on the Pacific Ocean there.

There is however a Canadian pipeline which crosses part of the US which the US are threatening to shut down. It supplies about half the oil for Ontario and Quebec and it will be a cold, dark winter if the pipeline is shut off.

Many thanks for the info.

Glad the drivers safe.

The worrying context though is that's ~4% of the fleet gone!

Unless of course they can bring it up and stick a bag of rice in the cockpit.

I'm well aware that synthetic training reduces the need for flying hours, and thus fewer airframes can be expected to have accidents. But flying jets off of boats is, and always will be, a dangerous game. There doesn't seem to be much resilience within the airframe numbers that are being bandied about.

Edited. Delete less, insert fewer. Standards FFS

The F35B crash made headline page on the BBC site. Unlike the entire previous events of CSG21, which not only did not make the headline page, did not make any page afaik.
