Explosives found in Paris store

  1. Five packages of explosives have been found and disarmed in a department store in Paris, French police are quoted as saying.

    The Printemps Haussman store was evacuated and cordoned off after the discovery, the AFP news agency said.

    AFP said it had received a letter signed by a group calling itself the Afghan Revolutionary Front warning of "several bombs" placed in the store.

    "However, the explosives, found in the toilets on the third floor of the store, had no detonators.

    "As far as we understand, this was not a set-up that was designed to explode. We will lead the inquiry and find the authors," said interior minister Michèle Alliot-Marie.

    French intelligence reportedly received information concerning a threat from Afghanistan three weeks ago."

  9. So they just wasted explosives then. They could have sent an equally frightening message with a box of playdoh packed around an alarm clock.
