Exploding AS90

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Anyone heard anything about an AS90 which is said to have exploded recently (not sure when) at Eskmels? The story I heard was that the turret stocks cooked off. I don't think there were any casualties, but apparently it was quite spectacular.

I'd heard it was a cook off as well.....supposedly large numbers of rounds fired then they left a round in the breech for '20 minutes'. no Casualties AFAIK.

p.s. please note the quotes the office thought is that the round was probably there an hour at least.

  3. That would accord with the story I have heard of the barrel splitting into three parts.

Glad it seems that no-one was hurt. I have to admit the video would be something to see!

  4. Recognising that this was a trial and there may have been something "funny" about the round/barrel combination, why would the barrel explode? Was it because the round was "live HE" and it was that which cooked off rather than the propellant?
