  1. Hello ARSSE
Please see below some details of an annual event run on behalf of the 4 big military charities. All participation welcome from those who think they're up to it. Last year the Norwegian Jegerkorps came second.....

In October 2009, a group of former UK services personnel co-ordinated a charity event requiring participants to race over 30 miles of Exmoor whilst carrying 30 lbs.

6 five-man teams entered and raised over £20,000 for The Royal British Legion and The Army Benevolent Fund. The winning time of 9 hours 47 minutes was achieved by a team of local ex-athletes and soldiers who beat off stiff competition provided by the Norwegian Jegerkorps.

The second running of this event will take place on Saturday 9 October 2010 and aims to raise over £100,000 for The Royal British Legion, The Army Benevolent Fund, Help For Heroes and SSAFA Forces Help.

This year’s event will offer the original ‘solo’ challenge where a team of five individuals completes all 30 miles without substitution as well as two ‘relay’ variants where 2 or 3 sub-teams of five individuals can each complete 15 or 10 miles respectively.

The co-ordinators have introduced the relay variant to make the event more accessible and less daunting. (This logic has since been keenly tested following confirmation that the Walking For The Wounded team of amputees ex-Afghanistan will compete in the solo event prior to their attempt of the North Pole.)

Notwithstanding the above, the relay concept has proven popular and prizes will be awarded for all-male, all-female and mixed teams across both the solo and relay events as well as the team which raises the most money overall. Lieutenant-General Sir Cedric Delves KBE DSO will present the prizes.
