Ever been done for speeding?

April 1st 1980, in my FFR L/Rover, on exercise, from static Comcen location to Hamlin for a bath run, 6 up , a kraut plod in the middle of the road waving an illuminated table tennis bat. I stop,he tells me i am speeding and fines me 10 marks, and the only reason i remember this is the date, and somewhere in the house, i still have the receipt. :p

I think you may find a few of the newer cases are on "smart" motorways where speeds can be changed, sometimes times for no good reason and people find themselves stung for doing 70mph on a clear motorway.

The cameras on "smart" motorways have just been tweaked to catch out people driving in closed lanes, too close to the vehicle in front and quite possibly more besides.

The real aim of the "smart" motorway is not safety-these roads probably kill more people, but revenue raisers for the corrupt government.

I am always amazed that in this day and age, with HD cameras capable of being installed in door bells and actually contact you by phone for example....

....when its really needed, the authorities seem only able to release footage that was apparently filmed using a potato.

I know it’s wiki but….

Smart motorways (U.K.) bought in by Labour.
There you go see, another socialist revenue income structure of making the poor pay for everything in their ‘Socialist Uptopia’.

Wonder what Labours angel of the month Ang ‘gobby cow’ Rayner would say to that…

Not from speeding fines
Local councils are funded by council tax, business rates and central government grants

Speeding fines go to the treasury and onto the department for transport
If you go on a speed awareness course then the fee goes to paying the company who run the course and the balance to the relevant police force
It’s largely central government funding that supports local government. Council tax makes up a fairly small percentage of Council funding and it can be capped by central government if they think the Council is charging over the odds.

Business rates are collected by local government but are passed over in their entirety directly to central government minus the collection costs.

It’s a common misconception that business rates goes to the Council dating back to the 1980’s when it did until Margaret Thatchers government changed the way local government were funded. The fact that local government still collect business rates leaves people believing the Council keeps the money.

Just recently, I was talking to a local timber supplier who was complaining about the amount the Council were charging him for business rates. He was very surprised to discover that the Council doesn’t set the amount of the tax and that it only collects the money to pass onto central government.

So although the way it appears, local government to most onlookers would seem to have three separate sources of funding, it does in fact have two sources and one of those, Council tax, is a very minor one.

So the reality is that local government funding is very firmly in the control of central government and it is rigidly controlled by them to dictate the level of spending that your Council can actually carry out.

Our council have been told to Find £72,000,000 extra and above their council tax revenue, as HMG is cutting this amount of subsidy over a 3 year period. The population of the Town-city is 264,000,.

Indeed, not per council tax payer but everyone living in the town. The figure will rise sharply when you remove those not actually paying the tax - children, non working wives, and others.

Pulled over, 62 in a 50, busted

"Why'd you do?" Copper asked

"I thought I'd get away with it" said I

Never saw the tickets, points or fine.

Contrite honesty with the Law is your best bet I think (assuming you're guilty of course)

No, the real aim is to provide extra capacity on the cheap, as compared to a widening scheme. Although there are "a few minor problems" that no one* (cough) could have foreseen.

Well I admit to doing a slow 135 mph in my rather swift Mercedes 190 Cosworth that was very well tuned. A nice early morning drive down a quiet German Autobahn thinking that there maybe a fair few mph sitting ready to be unleashed unfortunately a rather dull looking Police Porch appeared next to me with two rather upset officers in it. Now my wing man did suggest that if we were doomed then we might as well put the pedal to the metal. Being fully aware that said wing man was not driving and knowing that the nice cuddly German Police have a zero sense of humour and are not that keen on chaps from the U.K. I bottled it and pulled over. Was I zapped for speeding nope not at all I was how ever zapped for having a defective right rear break light and for having a fog light on when there was no fog. The car is tucked away in storage but comes out once year for its MOT and for a week or two in France. Mind you I did have three points for being 10 mile over a 30 a few years back once rehabilitated I was zapped doing the same bloody thing on the same bloody road which came with a pay and points or pay and do a days naughty boy course. Nowadays I’m Mr Slow which annoys the grown up kids if daddy’s driving which is normally under the speed limit. Oh to be young again .

I take a deep, perverse pleasure in sticking to exactly the speed limit, especially on the infernal West Lothian (unnecessary) 20mph zones. Even more so when it's a Range Rover or other expensive SUV or a sporty type of thing behind me.

It makes me smile.

Changing speed at the limit lines are another way to mess with peoples day. I've made progress with a traffic car behind me that way, slow, fast, slow ... repeat until a long corner turned up. I vanished once out of line of sight. (I suddenly wasn't there but a noise was) . He knew who I was and I knew who he was and it was an interesting game.
