Even Castro is Cutting Public Sector Jobs
Cuba announced yesterday that it will slash at least half-a-million state workers by early next year and reduce restrictions on free enterprise to help them find new jobs – Cuba’s official work force is 5.1 million – meaning nearly 10% of all employees could soon be out of a government job. Which makes Osborne’s deficit reduction plans less radical than Castro’s plans.

According to a statement from the Communist Party controlled Cuban Workers Federation – the only legal union in Cuba – this is “in support of Socialism” and will “make the Cuban production model more efficient.” There is nothing progressive about a budget deficit…

Cuban Workers’ Confederation Reiterates Support of Socialism

UPDATE : Cuba’s healthcare system is being reorganised as well. There is no money left…

No doubt this will be widely discussed and supported by comrades at the TUC conference and widely reported on by the BBC.

Damn, one of the very last bastions of Communism . . . . . and to think they'e chucked the towel in and said 'sod it, let's go capitalist!'.

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, not only that another version of the experiement in stupidity has failed, or that Ashie and Sven will be crying themselves to sleep, or even that all these rotten commie 'unions' are spunking loads of their money to try and prop up and failed 'ism', but most of all, that Cuba might actually turn into a proper nice gaff to go and visit once more, without having to stare out of the hotel at poverty, or watching people turn their gardens into farms so the community can stave of starvation, or marvel at how a people can keep cars going for 50 years simply because they've got no money to do otherwise.

I know i's all Maggie Milk Snatcher's fault, but do know something, I just don't care!

  8. Quite so, but then the Cubans are not pretend communists.

Imagine posters that Ed 'The Gump' Miliband wins the 'leadership' of the strangely named Labour Party. This odd party is financed and controlled by the Trade Union movement. OK so far?

The recidivist, barely literate, probably innumerate, repellently ugly lump Crow controls the Trade Union movement - or he thinks he does.

Deja vu mes braves Delete: the idiot Crow, and, Insert: the idiot Scargill.

Oh! I so much hope that the aptly named non-entity Ed 'The Gump' Miliband wins the election to 'lead' the irrelevant, past by the sell by date 'Labour Party' - please let it be so - pretty please! I bet 'The Gump's' father, a committed communist is so happy that the 'Gump' is now in the lead and not the wishy-wishy, unattractive, banana gobbling 'berk' David Miliband.

But surely Castro and co only became communists after the revolution, thus giving them the soviet empire as a market for their sugar.

I seem to remember, that the smallish communist party in Cuba, refused to enter the revolution until they saw which way the wind was blowing.
