Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I am currently in my 2nd year of my degree, and was thinking of doing a PGCE Civvy side before joining up (there are some advantages, not to mention the £5000 tax free golden handshake I would get after teaching for a year, as I am a scientist).

If I did follow this option and went to sandhurst would I be pretty much sent to the ETS or would I have the usual regimental selection process.

    Thanks

  2. You would get the range available to everyone else. I can understand the attraction of the financial rewards such as the golden hello for civvy teaching but you'll need to come up with a good reason for having done the PGCE then only taught for a small time. AOSB doesn't like people who come across as quitters or indecisive. Do you have any other reasons for wanting to do the teaching thing except the money side?
