EH is a trade that has strong competition. To be a tech you must have GCSEs in English, Maths and Science as you will essentially be going to university for 2 years. There is one selection event a year with on average 15 applicants (TFI's and Direct Entrants) for 4 places. I wouldn't worry about any courses before hand, but you should seriously look at what EH techs actually do, as many have turned up for the selection event and not had a friggin clue

Speak to your local Med Sgt, they will have contact details of the local EH team. Then get in touch with them and bribe them with beer to tell you what it is like

Thankyou for the information, yes i have read all about what an EH does and how hard the competition is. I have also took a visit to the EH Team in Afghanistan as well to see what they do. It looks good to be fair and always been interested in it. Thanks Mike.

Is there still the Enviromental Health training establishment in STC? That had a very nice bar.

If you need information, how do you know you want to do it? As noted, competition is high - As I recall there were about about 120 applicants for my course for 5 spaces, 30ish made it to trade interview with OC trade, there were 3 of us on my class III, 2 of us finished, and I sacked on Class II.

Ah yes, the School of Filth. We used the Staffy Arms during my short tenure ('89)

Bar definitely in the building in 90/91, used for training. Had French window's put in (as fire escape), then there was the patio (parking for the 4tonner!)

I didn't mind the Warmspider, it was the crisps in the kidney dishes that were slightly off putting!

To the left of the front door? That's where I went for my fag breaks. No sign of the Bedford Convertible while I was there.

The Düsseldorf EH bar was called "The Poison Store", because that's what it was supposed to be. We got given the bunker that prior to us had the posties flouroscope in it as a better place to store our nasties - halfway up the road to the Ruperts Mess on the left

To the left indeed. IIRC used to finish work at about 4, across to School of Filth bar for a few, and then everybody would clue up and leave at 1845, as at 1900, one had to sign out at STC Guardroom including statuary I have not been drinking clause! I'd just walk back to the Mess in time for predinner drinks!
