The election of Speaker is scheduled to take place in Monday 4/11/19. Who do you think/want to take the role?

These are the declared candidates but there may be other 'dark horses' who will try to put themselves forward at the last minute hence the A N Other choice.

Hoyle should be a shoe in. While the remainers have enjoyed having a bent ref if they think they're in with a sniff of power they won't want another loose cannon in the chair.

Despite being from the wrong side of the Pennines, I think Sir Lyndsay is a reasonable choice.
If he turns up for the job.

it is customary I believe for the speaker to be elected from alternate sides of the house. If that holds true this time, the Conservative candidates are out of the running so...

Lindsey Hoyle.

Apart from A N Other there are a bunch of names which either mean nothing, or should have been strangled at birth.

I particularly find Harperson a poisonous , cleverly nasty, insidious, manipulator of public ideas on British values.

As long as it's not Harriet Harperson, we don't want to have her finger in more P.I.E's

Her, being exposed for trying to legitimise paedophiles, is where she overdid her Socialist agenda.

There are still a lot of people living who think she is benign.

She is dangerous.

Yet I have hunch she might get it (a hunch, not a wish)

Custom and convention has been destroyed by Bercow.

It's "shoo-in", FFS.

Unless you're mis-speeelinge the prospect of somebody getting a good kicking.
Never knew that, thanks. Every days a school day.

You're welcome.

Feel free to become a disciple, committed to lifting others out of the cess-pit of publicly displayed ignorance of common English usage :thumright:
I agree, I've found the English to be very common! :p

Reflect on this: Little Johnnie B was appointed Speaker through the calculated deployment of votes cast by members of (the outgoing party of gubmint) the Labour party, whose principal criterion was that Little John was (and indeed remains) widely disliked by the grandees and a good many back benchers of his own party.

Think of that as a precedent, and potentially a template, for what happens next.
