Egg Banjos - Food of the Gods

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Just a quick post.

Riding to work today, watching the WVM Tw4t behind who thinks double white lines demark the overtaking lane, and the silver shed that thinks 'oooh look, a scooter, must be 50cc hairdrier i'll pass him on the roundabout exit' (its amazing how miffed they look when im 150yd ahead from the lights while there still letting the clutch out - its automatic sonny-jim!), Zipping down the A63 at a phenominal 55mph through the woods, passed Kellys Cafe - got a whiff of fried breakfast that threw me straight back to a far distant morning at Strensall or Proteus...

Enough of that, to the real stuff...

After a typical, hard day at work - no work in, being told the dice have been cast and my unit rolled a 7, and theres 50/50 chance im redundant in 6 weeks along with half the team, you know, everyday civvy life, :x

Sank into a pit of depression involving longingly staring west and inspecting the fence for blind spots, finally snapped out at 2130h, when a visit to the fridge revealed some fresh eggs - minutes later and a few deft culinary moves - spirits are lifted and im ready to take on the world with a pointy stick (or just to cam up and go hunting the boss with a gloved hand and bayonet  )

    The purpose of this post?

A man may fight for many things - His country, his beliefs, the chance to kiss a pretty girl...

But personally, i'd mud wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of french porn
  2. Wireless,
I find myself in a similar situation to yourself, find out in two weeks who will be culled, oops sorry rightsized!
Any way the little ditty below helps, good luck

    All together now!

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life

Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
    When you're chewing life's gristle,
    Don't grumble,
    Give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best.

Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the light side of life.

    If life seems jolly rotten,
    There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps,
    Don't be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle.
    That's the thing.

Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the right side of life,

    For life is quite absurd
    And death's the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
    Forget about your sin.
    Give the audience a grin.
Enjoy it. It's your last chance, anyhow.

Always look on the bright side of death,
Just before you draw your terminal breath.

    Life's a piece of shit,
    When you look at it.
    Life's a laugh and death's a joke it's true.
    You'll see it's all a show.
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the right side of life.

Always look on the bright side of life!
Always look on the bright side of life!
Always look on the bright side of life!
Always look on the bright side of life!
Always look on the bright side of life!
Always look on the bright side of life!
Always look on the bright side of life!
Always look on the bright side of life!

While agreeing totally with W-B, I must post the most crucial of questions.

What sauc e do you have on your banjo?

    Tomato ketchup

    or Brown sauce (HP variety)

This is a fundamental decision which has to be taken at some stage by all right thinking men. My personal choice is tomato ketchup - but I feel that some abuse will wing its way towards me from the lovers of HP (I was going to say brown sauce but some of the nastier members of Arrse might have taken that the wrong way :? )

So, come on, stand up for the really important things in life and show your true colours RED/BROWN.
  6. Sorry Guys it's just got to be "Daddys" for the egg banjo and no other imposters!
  7. Would have to go for HP brown sauce the choice of the discerning gentleman. However if you are roughing it on Exercise and sauce is not available then a few drops of Tabasco really hits the spot
  8. Ahhh, the glorious egg banjo, sheer godfodder. Its gotta be HP sauce, and the choice of egg is important too. Those insipid stunted little things from battery chickens are a disgrace. Get yourself some proper eggs from free-range/woodland hens, or even duck eggs, they're well worth the money.
  9. May seem strange to you fellas but - Murielson is allergic to egg.

24 years completed in the service of HRH ERII and never had an egg banjo.
  10. There has to be some compensation for a affliction like that. Why the allergy where you born with it or did a chicken savage you as a nipper?
  11. Newtonhamilton's chogiebanjo (with Daddies) at 0400hrs: the finest scran known to man. Seventeen-week old grease, an aroma of under-the-counter palliasse, suspicious burger as optional extra.
A Mk15 mortar landed dead centre on the bar, saving the Health and Safety Executive a long report.
  12. Sauce..... On a banjo!! Are you joking!!! You should all be taken round the front of the gun for a chat!

Finest white bread one suspisously runny egg bit of salt. BANG! Meal fit for a god!

I came accross a variation last year.. One of my oppo's had done a year with the RHF as a SSLC rupert. He was under the illusion that to be a banjo it had to be toasted bread... Hmmm. It was an interesting change to try it this way but after I'd finished beating him round the head with a moist haddock he soon came round to the untoasted point of view.

Any other variations out there that people would like to share with us?

Oh has anyone tried it on wholemeal bread?? If so please report to administration for "re-education"
  13. Born that way - was okay when the chicken did me over. Hardened me.
  14. only tried this on a baguette - think that is more police than squaddie habit
  15. ciabatta roll, toasted, with a touch of pesto and cracked black pepper.

    shall I go now :D
