Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Found this (while searching for 'The Quiet American' film)

    ‪Contact Ambush‬‏ - YouTube

'elusive enemy....' 'every footstep a danger.....' 'children carrying grenades......'

Will we never learn? Or rather will the arms industry stop owning our polititians please.

p.s. movie is 13 1/2 mins long, but is posted twice, back to back, for some reason)
  2. You could also apply that to Northern Ireland, Malaya and most of the counter insurgencies and peacekeeping operations the British military has been involved in, bar perhaps the kids with grenades bit.
  3. Yep. Memories are short and many don't remember how many we lost in NI in the seventies and eighties.
  4. Could you balance the NI loss's with how much inter faith bloodshed was avoided? I wasn't there but hope it was not in vain.

I just can't see a bright side to Afghanistan, and have no doubt it will return to civil war once we leave.
  5. I would add the nineties onwards.
