Now... is this some of the recently reported lost data now recovered, or is it yet another example of the Governments data security prowess come to light?.

    Will they even tell us!!

So the story is that an encrypted disc was found, but because it was encrypted no one knows what was on it. So nothing has been compromised. So this really isn't a story??!!!!

But on the other hand I could be outraged.....

I think in this case the gov. did not lose a disc - someone tea leafed it.

When laptops are replaced it is usual to wipe them, re-image them, and flog them. You would not normally open up the chassis.

More interesting is who nicked the disc - and why did they not recover it?

  4. It wasn't the government it was a human being who forgot that he's left a disc in a laptop, FFS why do people have top be so anti everything. perhaps whoever started this thread never forgot anything.

You misunderstood - it was not in the drive, it was hidden inside the chassis eg. someone had unscrewed the thing and deliberately placed the disc inside next to the motherboard etc.
