Earning additional pay

All,

TRADE: System Engineer

I'm curious to how one can earn more money via any tax relief, current schemes, courses to attend, etc. There is some information online I have found some, such as the JHubCrowd Coding Scheme, but not much after that.

Questions:
  • I'm currently on Supplement Band 2 but I'm confident System Engineers are on Supplement Band 3. Which is true?
  • Regarding pension, will the MOD match (to a small %) our voluntary contributions?
  • I'm specialising in a very technical job at the moment - much more than my collages. Based on the PAY 16 document (which dictates pay) could I discuss/make an an argument for a raise?

Advice/Routes to take?

Thanks

You can get additional work such as driving jobs (I worked for a driving agency whilst serving). There are some exclusions and you do need permission.

There will be a DIN on it somewhere.

You're supplement 2. You are not going to get a raise. Unless you become a distinct trade and convince the armed forces pay review board that you are worthy of supp 3.

The mod has a pension scheme. It is non contributory for the members, are you sure you are paying AVCs?

All that said, you don't sound like the most switched on troops in the corps. Maybe you should read up a bit.

For extra cash, you can get jobs. You need to ask the coc for permission. And army comes first.

No you can't make an argument for a raise.

Your pay scale for your trade is dictated by the AFPRB, you don't have any say in that (per se).
And you should know what Band you're on without having to ask. If you don't know that much, perhaps you don't deserve a raise.

And I think you mean colleagues.

Did you join under the 'snowflake' campaign?

Get lots and lots of really good pictures and stick them all randomly on a bit sheet of paper.
You'll be better than your other collages then.

Alternatively, get promoted.

you don't sound like the most switched on soldier in the corps.
I heartily concur good sir, on the assumption that 90% of posters on Arrse are pensioners, and left military service wearing puttees and DMS boots. Bearing in mind that my generation are going deaf, slightly ga-ga, and have very little comprehension of the modern army, its vehicles, weapons, equipment or infrastructure. Asking Arrse, will get you two answers, a piss take, or the obvious, the one which you should have figured out for yourself. SNAFU.

I believe that voluntary contributions have been added on the latest or some of the latest Service pensions.
The core pension is non contributory and purely funded by the MoD / government.

The question on any matching should probably be put in the pensions area of the forum

Technically, the pension is contributory, they just don't take money out of your wages.

Read the policy document, no and no. The country is about to be more skint than it’s been for years, be glad that you’re in employment.
