Early promotion if you go to Afghan

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. He's on LTOS, so no he probably won't.
  2. Just think about what you've said there
  3. I'm not going to read the link because it is the Sun!

However, change round the question to: "Would I be promoted early if I deployed on an op?".

    1. You might pick up local or acting rank (both can be quickly removed if you do not perform).
    2. If you have a good tour and are given a good OJAR/SJAR, you will score better on the Board and promote sooner if there is a vacancy. However, you will not go to the Board unless you are fully qualified.

I note that there is still a black hole in certain ranks and trades and that it will be around for a long while yet.

  4. Hypothetically it makes sense that a CO might seek to promote a non-grad Lt to ACapt slightly early if he has proved himself the equal of those who are sub-Capts and if he is fulfilling the role of/or equivalent to said sub-Capts. I think that might be considered natural justice.
  5. Thanks for the replies, I was just intrigued about whether or not the Sun was talking rubbish, as usual.
