DV checks- email and Internet history

So, I'm a university student looking to join the military reserves. MI, third batallion- i read you need a DV check to be able to serve and after some reading, im really quite worried.
If they check internet history, how far back do they go. I grew up in a house with up to ten people living here at a given time and we all shared the Internet. When it comes to pornography, how deep a check do they do, don't have any outlandish fetishes but i have viewed a lot of porn in my late teens.
Also, do they check my emails. And if i have multiple emails, do they check all of them. Im essentially worried they'll check things like YouTube comment history which shows in my emails, I'll be honest, I've written some shady comments in the past.

Will these things deter me from getting DV cleared.

Answer any and all questions truthfully, don't try to hide anything. If what they find does not match what you tell them, they get a bit twitchy. They don't care about your porn habits (as long as they are legal), just tell them everything so that there are no secrets (and therefore nothing that could be used to blackmail you).

Does it matter? They will ask you questions about your internet usage; be honest.

Just be honest about the zombie midget clown porn and you'll pass vetting

So I'm ok with just Midget clown porn then?

Not if it's only midget clown porn. A little bit of everything in moderation is OK. Fixation on one thing is a fetish.

Pterodactyl porn? Not even in moderation!

Honesty is the best policy. Complete the DV forms thoroughly and truthfully with the relevant detail they ask for. Bear in mind that it's a process intended to judge susceptability toblackmail and whether you pose a threat as a result.

In reality, the interview isn't the horrorfest your brain or rumour build it up to be and tends to be relatively relaxed if you get a good interviewer. You are massively overthinking this and burdening yourself with unnecessary worry.

If you are concerned..... find your posts and delete them.

Additional word of caution, once you get your clearance granted, don't go telling people who don't need to know on places like FB etc if you can avoid it. As disclosing that you have DV in a manner that identifies you personally is grounds for revoking it. I know, funny old thing.

Just be truthful. Most vetting "fails" are because you lied or didn't come clean on certain questions.

Remember " It's not what you do: it's lying about doing it" that causes most vetting fails. The vetting officer has seen/heard a lot worse than you've done.

Lie about something and you're definitely out; come clean and they respect your honesty... (up to a point, obviously).

Good luck. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in 3MI Bn.

Very true, and often makes for hilarious conversation.

Seriously if I can pass vetting, most people can

It only gets silly if you're adopted and started quizzing you on your birth family, when they will undoubtedly know more than you

Try not to start sentences with the word "So". The vetting will be what it is, and you can't change much, or delete those dodgy posts now!

If you are wondering why people are telling you to be honest it is simples.

The powers that be do not want any of their minions to have a dark secret lurking in their past, or even present, which may make them susceptible to blackmail. The idea being that if you like dressing up in rubber and riding ladies bicycles then just tell them, they document it, and when a soviet foreign spymaster tries to blackmail you then they can't because the security people already know.

Put “DV cleared” into the LinkedIn search bar and see how many absolute ******* screamers have it on their CV.

Seriously?

I know the septics have a penchant for telling people that they are TS cleared on their CV's. A lot of employers with govt. contracts even ask for it as a pre-qualification to employment.

Not really - what they’re interested in is do your friends/family know, and if not how embarrassing it is for you if they did find out. That’s what makes you susceptible to blackmail.
