Dumb NI question.

I was reading yet another bloody thread about Bloody Sunday, the general concensus is that the families of the dead civil rights marchers are never going to be happy till the soldiers involved are very publically prosecuted as loudly as possible.

Surely if the British Government of the day gave amnesty to all those murderers, psychos and thugs, (some of whom got very rich on the back of “the struggle”), shouldn't it follow that the same applies to the forces operating under the Crown?

I thought that was the point of the forgiveness and reconcilliation/move forward bit?
Or am I just really f**king naïve and as thick as mince?
Yes, 'dumb question'.

All you need to know is that the 'the forgiveness and reconcilliation/move forward bit' is all one sided.
