Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Ortlieb, marvellous bit of kit. even keeps out snow and that stuff can get into anything.

Some of the canoe specialists can be good for a deal rather than the Outdoor pursuits people

  2. Go with the Ortlieb bags, never had a problem with them, almost blast proof kit. I've got all my kit well water tight in them, even my mobile which has it's own little pouch!

  3. If you want dry bags for your kit, you can get them through the system, give me a day and ill find the part number off mine.

  4. Here's a couple of stock numbers if your in with the QM's!

liner field pack waterproof large NSN 8465-99-869-5048

liner field pack waterproof medium NSN 8465-99-869-5047

  5. Ortlieb...Allllll the way. Can't beat em. (They also carry a 5 year guarantee)

  6. Do they do ortliebs in the correct size for the issue bergan? Got one for my Lowe Alpine, but its a totally different shape to the issue bergan, so got an Arktis, the largest in the range from the 'hurst shop. Takes everything and has performed well so far.

  7. Ortlieb sizes. 109ltr for issued Bergen? Think the largest I can find right now is 50ltr.

  8. Isn't the combined volume of the issued Bergen 120 litres?, I'm a fan of ortlieb bags, I use one for the motorbike but a 50 litre for the main Bergen compartment should suffice for the bulk of your kit, I'd suggest thinner dry bags for the side pouches as ortlieb although excellent are quite thick and less flexible..

  9. Aaaah, cheers Beemer. Obviously I'm stupid. I'll be ordering a 50ltr Ortlieb this morning then.

  10. I've got the full-size one in my bergen - fills the main pouch just nicely (think it's either the 80L or the 110L).

I've also got a 50L which fills my Berghaus Munro quite nicely.

I'd say that 50L is probably a bit small for the main compartment, unless you've got a lot of stuff in there that you wouldn't want waterproofed.
