Drivers in 11 EOD Regt.

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

Why does 11 EOD Regt get a large proportion of throttle jockey's that the main RLC Regts don't want? The admin cases, the ones who want a posting near home, the 18 year LCpls?

Not slagging all the lads as on the whole they're great, but with 11 EOD being a specialist unit then one would expect the best drivers to be posted in. The ones who can think for themselves and are keen to progress. Not the "I've only got 3 years left", types who don't give a toss.

  2. Could it be because the RLC MCM Div M&RO (or whatever they are called nowadays) in Glasgow are USELESS! - there, I've said the unsayable. Is it any wonder when they are staffed by people who were told "Take the job at the Army MCM office, or we will stop your dole money (the noo)". They also pull stunts like offering continuance to civillians and posting people from units they were never posted to in the first place! Why did they ever move from Leicester?

Indeed, and 11 Regt are too "soft" to f**k them off back to whence they came.
  4. They send you those drivers because people like you exist and only 22 year lance jacks are going to put you in your place.

    A bite?

I said 18 year LCpls actually, they'd not be posted in if they were 22 year lance jacks.
  6. Don't think that you are special getting people posted in like that. You have never been to 8 Regt where all the Jocks and Geordies and Yorkies and NW lads, infact anyone who comes from anywhere in the North. Even worse when its part full of Officers and some SNCOs who still think its the Corps elite Regt and still in Munster. Less 3 Sqn of course who can't wait to be disbanded, anything rather than stay in the 'Mighty 8!'

As for feeling you are the only 'professional' unit who need tuly expert drivers who are exceptional and the rest of the Corps don't deserve them. Cheers, you Cnut!

You are right Speedy, the problem should lay at MCM Div feet. Poss even the Big Man at Deepcut as he puts his trust in them. Should be re-named Manning and Postings branch as that's all they do, Post you where they want. Remember the needs of the individual are upper-most but the needs of the Army must come first.

The driver posts in 11 EOD have a lot more responsibilty than normal, a fact not recognised when they have been "out of trade" for 3 years which is unfair on them. Both the AT/ATO and No2 rely on each other.

So why do a handful poor quality drivers keep getting sent to these posts? This is not intended as a dig at drivers, they do a great job at giving the Sustainer something to publish.
  8. I really do think you are being harsh on these drivers. Like any Regt there is dross and the is gloss. To tar them all with one brush (either way( is wrong.

Most of the Drivers, for instance, know that a Diesel Astra needs needs Diesel, not Petrol, doesn't it Dean?
  9. 3 points:

    1. The drivers in 11 EOD Regt are asked to do a lot more (in terms of responibility and new skills, as opposed to just hard graft) than they are in the 'generalist' units, and I think they should get some recognition for it.

    2. I do think you're being a little harsh on them, Melchers. Some of the very best No2s I have had have been drivers. So have some of the worst, but the former outnumber the latter. Quite a few drivers have re-traded to AT. Again, some are great, others less so.

    3. I think 11 Regt is probably the best posting most of them will ever get, if they are bright enough to see it: Small, informal teams to work with; a smaller, more specialised fleet to manage; emrgency service vehicles to drive fast on blue lights and stuff to blow up. But there are some who constantly whinge about how crap it is, how they are being employed 'out of trade' and how much better the transport regiments are to be in. Funnily enough, though, few of them are very keen to go back.

I agree with all you have said Birkers old chap.

The point I was trying to make was that with 11 EOD being such a small Unit, then why aren't the pick of the mainstream drivers posted in. 11 Regt could cherry pick rather than just taking them in and putting up with them.

I was probably having a bad day when I first posted this load of old spunk.
  12. Well perhaps a bit more driver trg might not go amiss. When they aren't too busy speeding and tailgating,
they can actually get a WEDGEWOOD on its roof in a field.
Well done chaps. That takes a bit of effort. (and black ice apparently, hmmm, really).
  13. i know very little about the life/work of a dvr in 11 regt, but it is clear from the posts so far that AT's and ATO's who are/have been there think that:

    1. 11 regt require dvrs who are of a higher calibre on average than those in a tpt regt.
    2. the dvrs in 11 regt find the work more challenging and rewarding and the environment less '****'.

this sounds very similar the other so called 'elite' corners of the corps (cdo log, 47 ad, 13 regt, JHSU etc). they attempt to circumvent the problems posed by the MCM randomiser by recruiting from within. if the 11 regt 'product' is that good, perhaps a presentation in the 'shot or the 'sloh would result in high cailbre lcpl's of dvr persuasion putting 11 regt on the top of their ppp (rather than the 15 yr lcpl's, for whom it is near home!). if the demand for dvrs to serve at 11 was higher then it would be easier to fcuk the dross off, as it is i suspect a reluctance to 'sack' dvrs for fear of not getting replacements (or getting replacements that are just as poor).

i suppose what i'm saying melchers, is that if you want the cream of the dvrs then get off your arrse and do something about it.

Indeed b_e_b, I did put forward my proposition whilst at said EOD Regt, however with teh post being over 12 months old I have since moved on.

Since then it would appear that the problem has been partly addressed an things are changing.
  15. good point, well presented. i shall add '.... needs to pay greater attention to detail' to my AR. clearly i have been seen off LCPL CNUT, great avatar though.
