Driver Lineman

#1
Hi, I applied to join the Army in June 07 and was deferred on medical grounds until June 09. When I originally applied my 1st choice was Inf. with 2PWRR. Now I am drawn to the Signals, due to my GCSE'S I am only eligable for Driver Lineman or Technical Supply Specialist and am looking for some info. and advice. I am doing Brit Mil Fit classes to keep myself fit. I am still interested in doing combat but am more drawn to the PARAS. Advice and help would be appreaciated.

The trades/jobs your looking at are very different. Do you want to be in the Infantry or Signals? Infantry you'll get shot at, Signals you'll make brews. Get as much info from the ACIO about each. Signals isn't a bad job, living as a REMF has its good and bad points. Infantry operate on the front, living where ever they can getting on the ground.

Ok, Listen up as cow has told a few white lies.

1. Driver lineman and stores are very soon to be one trade 'comms support specialist'. Name TBC sometime this year.

2. R Signals are not REMFS. The FIRST pow's taken in Gulf War 1 was by a R Signals Det forward of the front line!

3. Royal Signals have....SAS,PARA,and COMMANDOO Units. Also a Special Comms unit. These units are certainly not REMFs. SO if you want to do PARA, be a Sigs PARA and get the money and a trade!

Give the Royal Signals Recruiting team a call on 01258 482818 for more information.

Thanks for the info. got a year to go before I reapply so I will be keeping an eye out 'comms support specialist' With doing Sigs PARA would you be able to do that as a driver lineman / comms support specialist?

COW the reason the trades/jobs I am looking at doing are different is because on one hand if I go in for a few years then I'll go Inf/Para but if I stay and do the whole 22 years or whatever it is then I'll go Signals.
Combat is what my heart says but Signals is what my brain is saying if that makes sense.

My friend, follow your brain. If you have the ability to gain a trade in any of the Corps then do it - choice is down to you. If following training and experience you are drawn to an infrantry career the doors are still open to you.
