Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I am doing a course in Military English. I know it's a drag, but I'd appreciate guys, if you could record the drill commands I posted at

I need two types of pronunciation - British and American English.

To do this, please click on the Record a comment link. I know , it's a long list,.. choose your fav ones :D

    Thanx in advance,

    Stay safe

  2. Sadly, quite a few of the WOC you posted as samples are not used in the British Armed Forces.

  3. Is this how novelty ring-tone manufacturers do their work then??
  4. Are you taking the p*ss??

  5. Hey Plunderer,

thanx for your remark. i used the info which is at
  6. Obviously I am. Cdtjohn, what about you?

  7. thanks for a great link! looks very impressive!
  8. Why are you doing an English course in drag, sounds particularly marine to me? Also I think you have missed the point, the drill instructor-Sgt-Pig is just shouting out his mates names at which we all lead a marry dance.

Jeff Wright - he always shouts Jeff several times as he's deaf you know

    Mark Twain

    Albert Turner

Stan Still and his cousin Stan Easy

    Mike Toast

    Al Tease

    Tedd Shun

    Isaac Dwight

Byron Wright and his twin Byron Deft

    Or his sister Dee Missed

Practice them all I am sure you will eventually get the pronunciation right.

Strange place to put this request.
Drill & officers don't really mix do they?
  10. Indeed not.

I remember on one of my very first (slightly nervous) guard mounts, successfully crossing my spurs and leaving spur + heel of my boot in situ when stepping off.

The guard couldn't keep a straight face.

Considered a profession obligation to be crap at drill.
