Downloading DVDs

#1
Which websites would one need to download the latest DVD titles.

I have heard something about using bit torrent (????)

Not sure how it works though.

Can anybody give us all a quick brief and a point in the right direction??

Google Rapidshare, but downloading them is in contravention of the copyright act of course :)

Bit torrnt and the others rely on a conection to someone's home PC.
Rapidshare and Mega Uploader have online fileservers which makes the
download quicker and more reliable. I normally prefer Rapidshare.
The files are not publicly listed for obvious reasons but there are loads of
forae that list the files. A lot can be found via.....
You've guessed it..Google

Dont use p2p sites like emule especially if you want to download a dvd rip, the file size is just too large and it will take you forever to get it.

I would personally use torrents and if you can get yourself on a private invite only torrent site then ratio matters, which means you have to upload more than you download.

It may sound like a pain in the arrse but the end results are being able to download new releases very very quickly indeed.

Google torrent sites and see which one takes your fancy.

Mininova is good along with empornuim :cyclopsani: but remember the copyright laws :thumright: Mininova is also very easy to use just downloading all the OS maps of the UK in 1:25000 for evaluation purposes :headbang:

I can give you an invite to a private torrent tracker but if you want this you will have to bear in mind that you need to keep a very good ratio ie: you need to upload more than you download which in this country of w@nk upload speeds u generally need to leave your computer on all day uploading to said private tracker.

Pm me if you are interested I have a few left.

A,errr, mate gives the following tip.

www.torrentspy.com and do a search for axxo. All their uploads are top quality and the movies are around 700mb in size (Handbrake for Mac is one program that will shrink a DVD quality movie to this size).

Torrentspy is all well and good if you don't want to spend a lot of time seeding to get your ratio up but you will get the best download speeds from private trackers simply becuase there is no incentive to seed on a public tracker and a lot of people do not do it.

Therefore that results in many leechers and not enough peers and just slows the whole system down completely. I downloaded a certain real time over 24 hours show the other week, well before it may or may not have been released on U.S tv and I was getting it at 750 KB/s which is my maximum download speed on my current ISP.

I challenge anyone to get similar speeds from a public tracker.

This is a good bittorrent search site www.torrentz.com .
If you download any of these, you'll also need to download a program like Azureus to manage your torrents. Use google to find Azureus, its free. Happy wnaking! :shakefist:

There is another much faster way than torrents - use newsgroups.

But you are restricted to what others decide to post.

If they have what you want then you normally get decent film like say Blood Diamond in about 20 mins.

The trouble is you need to do a bit to it before you can use it as a dvd. so it is a more involved process. Unless you are happy to leave them as .avi's and watch them on your PC.

You need a few programs to go from avi to dvd, all are free but they are user built so they require a bit of understanding as to what you are trying to do.

A friend gets 20 or so films a night, but takes much longer to turn them into dvd's.

Demonoid.com is one I might dabble with and its invite only I am afraid, or I might be fibbing and making the whole post up.

Good download speed too, had over 290kBits yesterday when I might of been downloading.

Beware of paying for these sites and then they lead you to torrantspy.com which is free anyway!!!!!

how do you use the newsgroups?
Please do tell us all.

Just read the info on the site, bit of a mare to download. Not just for the average user of a computer me thinks.

you need a number of things. Firstly you need to see if your isp provides newsgroup access. If it does make a note of the newsgroup server address.

Then find a newsgroup reader and set it up with the server address from your isp.

Then subscribe to newsgroups that have films in them.

You then mark all the parts of the file you want and decode, that downloads the film.

Depending on what format it is in, you need to rebuild it (from rar files) extract the audio (fix the audio if it is ac3) then encode the video and audio. Then author the encoded files then burn to dvd.

As i said it takes a while!
