  1. I was saddened to read of the death of Donald Hewlett yesterday.
He died aged 90 having been ill for some time and finally passed away on Saturday at the Chelsea and Westminster hospital in London. He was best known for his role as Colonel Reynolds in the comedy "It ain,t half hot mum"

He served with the Royal Navy in World War 2

It ain,t half hot mum was one of Jimmy Perrys and David Crofts creations, overshadowed by their other long running comedy hit "Dads Army" chiefly because it is considered to be non PC and therefore has not enjoyed repeats on mainstream TV.

Jimmy Perry served in both the Home Guard and with the Royal artillery in Burma in World War 2 giving him the inspiration for these two great comedies.
David Croft also served in the war graduating from Sandhurst in 1942 and serving in North Africa, India and Singapore Reaching the rank of Major.
