Don’t send personal e-mails on your CrackBerry, taxman warns
Times Online Link

THEY are the hand-held devices so addictive that they are known as “CrackBerries”. The palm-sized mobile phone with e-mail and internet access allows professional users never to feel out of touch.

Now the taxman is about to dampen their ardour: anyone who sends too many personal e-mails on a work BlackBerry could face a bill of hundreds of pounds, under new rules governing work benefits.

“Anything designed to be used by being connected to or inserted into a computer” will also now be liable for tax, including printers, scanners, modems and even MP3 players, according to Revenue & Customs BlackBerries and other “personal digital assistants” (PDAs) had been exempt from tax because they were used mainly as mobile telephones, but their increasing sophistication has brought them into the taxman’s orbit.

I wonder how many other ways the government will think of screwing money out of us?

Maybe litres of O2 used by an individual per day..........colour of car maybe??

Time to go now bLiar 8)

Yeah isn't this t do with the government trying to tax computers rather than give people a break as they were before (even covers people buying computers for businesses IIRC).

Yet another stealth tax, is the country really doing that well if we need to tax every single aspect of our lives?

Didn't vote for Gordon Brown to be PM so why should he be*? Fat cnut.

*Actually didn't get the chance to vote thanks to my local council!

Newest and latest tax swindle? Here in the Vaterland they are going to tax each and every PC that has Internet access.

Well they aren't calling it a tax but an extension of the TV licence fee as the local version of the BBC (ARD/ZDF) have put some of their content onto the web so the Government reckon that the public should pay for this.

Now that really is taking the p1ss.

It's one of the things under consideration by this Govt too, IIRC.
