    I am desperately trying to find a history book on the AGC or pay corp?! The internet seems to have failed me! please please help!!

  2. Thanks for the link Smudge. I had a shufti through that for old time's sake.

    Pay bloke was generally a fairly unassuming type bloke, just did his job and got on with it. Pay day was usually Wednesday or Thursday. Troop fell in, in three ranks, before a folding table with an old grey Army blanket spread over it, at which was seated the troop commander and the RAPC bloke.

    Name called out, march up, salute, hand over pay book, receive in sweaty hand about three pounds two shillings and sixpence, shout "Pay and pay book correct sir," salute again, right turn, fall out and then run like feck to the NAAFI to be first in the queue for a pint of Tiger Tops. Solvent for another three or four days.
    Felt like millionaires. :D
