  2. No, but I'd strongly recommend getting one with a solid state hard drive rather than DV tapes. Saves buggering about downloading (downloading a full DV tape will take an hour) but does have the downside that you've got to download when the memory is full, rather than just being able to slot in a new casette. So, choice probably depends on what you're going to be doing and how often you can get to your laptop.

    Maybe the best option is to get one that records direct to a disc, though this may require you to get a new disc drive for your laptop that will read the smaller discs.
