Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Just a quick question, a friend of mine is interested in becoming a despatch rider within the RLC, i tried looking on the website but for some reason i cant select stuff through the drop down menus.

Basically just wanna know if you can join as a despatch rider or have you got to spend time in the postal/couriers doing something else for a few months ?

    Any help would be great,
    Thanks in advance

  2. Is this in the TA or Regs ?
  3. TA ?
  4. Then I suggest he picks the phone up and speaks to the psi at the local Rlc TAC
  5. There are two specialist Postal and Courier Regiments based out of Grantham. They mainly focus on mail sorting but also have despatch rider capability. They mostly recruit from Royal Mail but somtimes let real people into there ranks.
Alternatively join a Transport unit, where the DR's are used as route recce, critical points and comms between unit locations.
  6. Or infantry - my old mob had a couple of HD's that the MT platoon used for swanning around on - mainly on convoys but inthe field as well.
