Des Browne Out, John Hutton In

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. So, the new Sec Of State for Defence is set to be John Hutton. My question is is does it really matter? All they do is sign Warrants for new WO's... isnt it?
  2. Even though Hutton's webmaster can't spell/proof-read, at least we have a DefSec with some idea of military history:

    from his web site

"Publications "Kithener's Men" - Published by Pen and Sword Publishers April 2008. The book provides a history of the training and fighting experiences of the Service and Territorial battalions of the King's Own Royal Lancasters in France during World War One. Soliders in the Kings Own Roayl Lancaster were recruited from the Furness area and the book was inspired by the stories related to John by his constituents who served in the Great War. Any proceeds from this publication will go to the British Legion"
  3. Will Hutton be "double hatting" (not to be confused with broon hatting) with Scotland as well?
  4. From the Beeb website:

At last the man shows some guts, albeit too late... :(
  5. Time will tell over Huttons effectiveness as Defence Seceratary.

What I find more disconcerting is the appointment of Peter Mandelson back in to the Cabinet.

He left under a cloud after rumours of shady dealings and now he's back, has he changed for the better? I doubt it!!!!!

A leopard doesn't change its spots.
  6. Margaret Beckett is coming back, as is, gasp, Mandelson

    My sentiments exactly.
  10. Hutton to be full time SofS - good news.
  11. I really think that unlike that cnut Hoon, Browne was trying to do the best he could in an impossible situation that required both balls and specialist knowedge he lacked.
  12. Margaret Beckett as cabinet enforcer - will be appearing on our screens more often - now theres a delight I am really looking forward to, got a face like a bag of spanners!
  13. Are you suggesting she should be nominated for this thread? :D :D
  14. Absolutely not Beckett is a munter even I with my low standards wouldn't even consider jumping on. she is a 3 bagger at minimum.
  15. They dont even sign the warrants nowadays they just get their sig scanned on day one and its then just printed on. Disgusting way to treat Warrant Officers IMO. Take some time, sign the bloody thing properly and get it put some decent parchment and framed before a proper presentation. Only decent way to do it.
