Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

    YesItsMe LE Good Egg (charities)

    Please read this:
The troops oversees would like you to send it to everybody you know.

Don't know whether you heard about this
but Denzel Washington and his family visited
the troops at Brook Army Medical Center , in

San Antonio, Texas (BAMC) the other day. This
is where soldiers who have been evacuated from
Germany come to be hospitalized in the United
States, especially burn victims There aresome
buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher
House is a Hotel where soldiers' families can stay,
for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying
on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled
    most of the time.

While Denzel Washingtonwas visiting BAMC, they gave
him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how
much one of them would cost to build. He took his check
book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there
on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear
this story and want to get the word outto the American
public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it

    The question is -why do:
Brad Pitt, Madonna, Tom Cruise and other Hollywood fluff
make front page news with their ridiculous
    antics and Denzel Washington's Patriotism
doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of
any newspaper except the Local newspaper in San
    Antonio .

A true American and friend to all in uniform!

  2. That is awesome a true gent he should be applauded
  3. Top Bloke - Although he is biassed having served as a sub XO on Crimson Tide. :D

I'd be suprised if our celebs would drop £2 in a poppy pot.

Well done, Denzel. You're alright. Even at nearly 900 years of age my missus still thinks your the sh1t.
  4. I don't normally think much of Denzel as a bloke, though I love his films.
But this is bl00dy amazing, if any other "celebs" had even half of this decency in this country it would be a great thing, unfortunately the rich of this great nation are only interested in stopping the families of service personnel from being near their families, a la Headley Court.

    Good on you Denzel
  5.

nothing else needs saying, except it puts all the others to shame !!
  6. The fact that most of our famous actors have served (the older 1's mostly but suppose most of them live in America now anyway) shows how much troops are respected buy the rich and famous in our country.
  7. Brilliant Actor, Brilliant Guy.
  8. A quick read of this it bought tears to my eyes
  9. Quite a remarkable gesture. I doubt if it'll catch on over here, sadly.

I can only presume that he neither wants, nor feels the need for the publicity.
  10. What a legend!!!

He's my favourite actor as it is, but hearing that has made him even more of a legend in my eyes. If only some of the rich and famous people in Britain were as patriotic and proud of our troops as Denzel is of the US, and their fighting men and women.

    spike7451 RIP

Top drills Denzel! He's made some good flicks & this shows that unlike most actors he's not up his own arrse with self importance.
  12. Presumably because Denzel Washington does his good deeds in private while others flout their misdeeds (and somewhat iffy beliefs) in the full glare of publicity (That and the gutter press prefer tales of scandal to those of virtue).

    cloudbuster had it right
All I can say to Mr. Washington is "Well Done, Sir!" It's a pity we can't find a few like him over here".

  13. What a lot of crap! If people bothered to read the links you would find out he DID NOT pull out his cheque book on the spot and DID NOT pay for an entire house, though HE DID make a sizable donation SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER visiting, and for THAT he should be applauded.

Don't worry everyone, there'll be another band wagon to jump on shortly!
  14. Well done that man. :highfive:
