DENTISTS OVERSEAS

Not been in HK since 1995.
Has the smog gone yet?
Its better for sure but you still get grim days / weeks/ Was actually talking about it over the weekend with someone who said that it is much better these days than it used to be (I have only been here 10 years so am a relative newcomer)

First went in 1985, don't remember much in way of it then but was up in New Territories then.

Must head back there one day but suspect that it has changed a great deal.

Thailand. Its a pretty common thing to do from here in HK. Even when factoring in flights and accommodation it is still cheaper to go there for any major work.
Agree with this. I had a partial metal plate made in Thailand which cost me £180 with initial cast and two fittings.

When my UK dentist saw it (he's one of the best in the town where I live) he was quite impressed. He pointed out all the things that made it a quality denture and said that there were only very minor differences if he'd done it.

I asked him how much he'd charged for the same thing and he said about £1500.

Replying to myself...

Be Warned! Thai people are particularly susceptible to anaesthetics so dentists out there tend to give them smaller doses than would be the norm in the west.

The dentist I went to had lots of farang patients so was aware of this and said that if I was still feeling pain after the first dose I was to say so and he'd give me an extra dose.

In some ways no doubt. In others, well all of these were taken, by me, in the last week or so:

Surprised he can even get the components for that price
Libya has a bizarre system, where the dentists can buy the components ( as part of their National Health Service) at the official currency exchange rate, which is seven times the “actual exchange rate.”

the components then cost one seventh of market value.
