Just a tad surprising that a country that thinks of itself as a ‘great power’ needs to circulate agitprop. It’s like watching pathe news. Welcome to the C20th, let alone C21st. As for being ‘liked’ ......

Then what is the Russian motivation to be mucho macho?
It is not demonstration of "machism", vise versa. Hunting in West Europe is (and traditionaly was) privilege of aristocrats and, sometimes, richmen. In Russia and USA it aviable almost to anybody, especially in rural parts of country. Hunting is a demonstration of togetherness with ordinary people. Something like eating baozi for Xi, or hamburger-eating for Obama. Hunting with tranquilisation darts (instead of normal bullets) demonstrate his 'progressivity' and, may be, even 'ecologically oriented' mindset. 'Counter-machism', like shaking women's hand at meeting.
For demontration of his 'macho'-status he have the most powerful nuclear force in the world. Photo on nuclear submarines, in strategic bombers and so on demonstrate his status of Supreme Commander
To confirm his status of the Great Pontifex he build really great bridges, (including largest bridge in Russia and Europe - Crymean one).

No
Hunting in Europe was and is for all classes

There are the aristocracy who hunt for sport and the working man who hunts for food
The modern day ‘hunter’ varies across classes, less so the city folk and more so the country folk

The point of the video that you have missed is why Putin must always personally shoot / find the best things.

He is mucho macho, winning and exceeding at everything he attempts first time

Russian court jails Norwegian for 14 years for espionage - Reuters
The Norwegian alleged spy, detained since December '17 has been convicted 'behind closed doors' for 14 years. He doesn't intend to appeal the verdict as he believes he will get a pardon from Putin:
Frode Berg, a 63-year-old retired former guard on the Norwegian-Russian border, was detained in Moscow in December 2017 and tried behind closed doors this month. He pleaded not guilty to charges of espionage on behalf of Norway.

Berg will not appeal the verdict and plans to request a presidential pardon from Vladimir Putin that would see him freed, according to his lawyer, Ilya Novikov.

Norway’s Foreign Ministry said it had “noted” the verdict but did not comment on its substance. It said it was working in multiple ways to bring Berg back to Norway.

“Norwegian authorities... wish to see the safe return of Frode Berg to Norway,” a ministry spokeswoman said.

Berg, who was wearing a suit and was handcuffed as he watched proceedings from a glass cage, acknowledged having been caught handling sensitive material for Norwegian authorities but denied having any idea he was involved in espionage. Details of the case have not been revealed as they are classified.

Asked by the judge in Russian if he understood the court’s verdict, Berg bowed his head slightly and said “yes” in English.

“He had no illusions. He expects his government will take all necessary steps to secure his release through diplomatic measures,” defence lawyer Novikov said.

He is a president, tip of a spear, thousands of people work for his actions, prepare to do it in a best way. If he will decided to gather blackberries, for example, his advisors will find him a best lawn with the most sweet berries, hunters will chase all predators from his way, and chemist will disperse clouds and kill mosquitos. It is the way how the system works.
His victories and successes are results of his team work.

Just for lulz (or general erudition if you know nothing about Russia).
Article about history of Russian hybrid warfare.
"Russia’s growing employment of non-linear forms of warfare (including private military contractors) has long historical traditions. This paper seeks to discuss the main milestones of historical evolution of Russia’s use of mercenary and irregular forces from Tsarist Russia to the final days of the Soviet Union."

I dare say that as Mr. Putin ages, he will be the best at visiting garden centres, playing bowls and feeding ducks. I don't envy his PR department the task of making him look a hard thrusting type when his knees and pelvis finally give up the ghost.

It all just seems a bit silly really. Then again, I come from a society where we expect our representatives to be capable of a little more than riding bears bare back with the associated implications of being a man's man if you get my drift..

Never say never. Who could imagine 25-30 years ago that China reaches about equal economical status with the USA?
I believe Deng Xiaopeng ousting the 'Gang of Four' is often seen as the start and their growth from '78 to '84 set the scene for the future.
Russia was regarded 25-30 years ago as insignificant country with Belgium size economy, crumbling armed forces.
It was and depending which GDP you use, you're (nominal) 11th/12th or by PPP you're 6th. Belgium is 22/23 and 36/37 respectively.
Many in the West live in fantasy world with deeply implemented stereotypes.

Russia is quite able to reach about equal military and geopolitical strength with the USA.
Maybe, if it wasn't being stolen or the west loses their reliance on oil and gas
They probably said the same thing in 1914
Moscow will not agree with anything less that equal status on the world stage with Washington.
You do seem to have a problem with the US. I put it down to them saying they 'won the cold war'
You say it will never happen? Never say never.
Sounds like a Bond film :)
