Dead pool 2021

142 154 69 x 5
Cowboys and Indians.
My Dad's version was the supposed price of oil per barrel in dollars( bluffing) and the Arabs putting the price up from 142 to 154, then another 69. "And since then the price has gone up five-fold......"

You simply tapped the figures in, then turned the calculator around to show the result. Caused great amusement, and some people believed it! Of course, there were the clever ones who would say: "Hang on, you are not doing that right....."

I heard it at junior school as 142 cowboys fought 154 indians and the dead were 69 x 5 - what were they fighting over.

Yes I know the figures don't add up.

The Telegraph obituary suggested his attitude to the failure of the C5 was a shrug of the shoulders and a quick 'memo to self' that there is no such thing as bad publicity (unless you are Gerald Ratner). He made money and shagged decent totty. Pretty much all any bloke can aspire to.

The first “electronic calculator” I saw was about the size of an electric type writer - would have been around ‘71.

One of the guys in the office came up with a calculation that he would put in as we went to lunch and it would still be churning away when we got back from the pub an hour later.
They weren't electronic calculators. They were electric adding machines which "multiplied" on an iteration principle. If you keyed in something x 20 it would simply do 20 repeat additions.
So they were a pain in the arse for doing multiplication, but they were convenient in that you just had to punch a button to do a calculation rather than having to operate a lever on the side.

Now, here's where things get a bit sinister...
Because of Covid, local government elections were postponed.
Various parties, knowing the ANC was ripe for a kicking following their appalling handling of the pandemic - draconian lockdown rules which made no sense, huge scandals of corruption in PPE supply, govt ministers flouting the rules etc - demanded elections go ahead.
(Add to that the rift between President Ramaphosa, and a faction of senior ANC types who support corrupt ex President Zuma, which has seen many party bigwigs arrested for corruption... and yet despite the charges, they refuse to step down!)

Until the courts decided, nope, no postponement, the constitution demands they DO go ahead.
Meanwhile, the ANC, confident they'd have time, were deciding on candidates... and because of much dicking about, missed the deadline to submit lists - therefore about of third of the nations municipalities wouldn't have any ANC candidates!!!

Ooooh, back to court we go.

Now there's a huge scramble to get onto candidates lists, and much infighting within the party to get their noses in the trough.... which escalated quickly into shootiness and killings.

So, with that background, the Mayor's car crash death may just be a bit suspicious.

A namesake that probably added much more to the world of culture in a more subtle, educated and dignified way than the craven airheaded strumpet that courts attention everywhere she goes.
Mills & Boone await your submissions.
And, you "still would" if offered.....yes?;)

I'm afraid I'm unable to even begin to describe the immensity of the shit I don't give.
